Lola Arslanbekova Named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week




PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville junior Lola Arslanbekova led the Cardinals volleyball team to a 2-0 week and for her efforts was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Seton Hall's Stacey Manthorpe was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her play as the Pirates went 3-0.

 

Arslanbekova averaged 5.33 kills per set for Louisville as the Cardinals swept both St. John's and Connecticut in the opening weekend of BIG EAST Conference play. Five kills into the match against UConn, Arslanbekova moved into tenth place on the Louisville all time kills list as a junior. She ended the weekend with 1,216 career kills.  She recorded a .537 hitting percentage with 32 kills and just three errors in her first two BIG EAST matches of the season.  She has 14 or more kills in seven consecutive matches. This is the second time this season she has earned player of the week honors.

 

Manthorpe earns Freshman of the Week honors for the first time this season.  She averaged 4.00 kills per set to go along with 3.00 digs per set in three road victories last week.  On Sep. 20, she recorded nine kills in a sweep over Princeton. Manthorpe set career highs with 18 kills and 14 digs in the Pirates' first win at Pittsburgh since 1998. She recorded her second-straight double-double, and third of the season, notching 17 kills and 13 digs in a four-set victory at West Virginia.
