BIG EAST Player of the Week
Elizabeth Koberstein, Marquette, S, Sr.
Koberstein helped Marquette hit a season-high .387 in a 3-2 win at previously undefeated DePaul. She notched 69 assists in the win, a personal-best at MU. Koberstein also helped the Golden Eagles beat Illinois State 3-2 on Wednesday evening. She averaged 12.3 assists for the week and almost 14 per frame in the match at DePaul.
BIG EAST Rookie of the Week
Abbey Bessler, Xavier, OH, Fr.
Bessler had a match-high 20 kills in leading Xavier to its first BIG EAST Conference win in any sport when it beat Butler, 3-1, on Friday evening. She added 12 digs in the match for her team-best eighth double-double of the season. Bessler hit a career-best .415 with only three errors against the Bulldogs. She averaged 5.0 kills per set to go along with 3.0 digs per set.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Vesela Zapryanova, DePaul, OH, Sr.
Tied a career-high with 22 kills in a sweep of Illinois-Chicago, the most in a three-set match since at least 2005 for the Blue Demons. Was second on the team with 17 kills in 3-2 loss to Marquette.
Autumn Bailey, Marquette, OH, Fr.
Registered a career high with 29 kills and hit .500 at DePaul, the most kills in the BIG EAST this season for any player. Averaged a team-high 4.2 kills per set for the week, which also included a 3-2 victory over Illinois State.
Karin Palgutova, St. John’s, OH, So.
Led the Red Storm to a 3-2 win over Seton Hall with a career-high 28 kills. Added 11 digs for her team-high fifth double-double of the season.
Ashley Boursiquot, St. John’s, MB, Jr.
Hit .474 in a 3-2 win against Seton Hall. Recorded 10 kills and a match-high 10 blocks.
Claire Crutchfield, Villanova, OH, Fr.
Hit .312 with 13 kills in a 3-1 win over Georgetown. The Wildcats have won five in a row and eight of their last nine.
