Cincinnati's Scott Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Jordanne Scott of Cincinnati propelled the Bearcats to a 2-0 week en route to BIG EAST volleyball Player of the Week honors. Freshman Erin Fairs of USF registered two double-doubles in two wins to be named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.


Scott led Cincinnati to wins over UConn and St. John's last week. The Bearcats defeated UConn on Oct. 12 in five sets behind Scott's double-double. The senior tallied 19 kills and 12 digs. She followed up that performance with another double-double in a 3-1 win over St. John's on Oct. 14. Scott was two blocks shy from a triple-double; recording 22 kills, 13 digs and eight blocks. In two matches, she averaged 4.56 kills, 2.78 digs and 1.33 blocks per set.


Fairs posted double-doubles in wins over Villanova and Georgetown. Last week, in a 3-0 sweep against the Wildcats on Oct. 12, the freshman recorded 14 kills on .423 hitting and added 19 digs.  On Oct. 14 versus Georgetown, she tallied 10 kills, 19 digs and five blocks. Fairs averaged 3.00 kills, 4.75 digs and 0.75 blocks per set during the week.


Weekly Honor Roll:

Gwen Rucker, Louisville, Sr., MB

Rucker averaged 2.57 kills and 1.79 blocks per set last week; totaled 11 blocks and 11 kills against St. John's on Oct. 12.

Danielle Carlson, Marquette, Sr., RS/MH

Carlson hit .444 with only three errors on 81 attempts; tallied 14 kills with zero errors against Western Michigan on Oct. 9.

Stephanie Zielinksi, Rutgers, Sr., S

Zielinksi dished out 11.44 assists and had 2.67 digs per set in two matches; posted 54 assists and 17 digs versus Marquette on Oct. 14.

Shelbey Manthorpe, Seton Hall, So., S

Manthorpe registered two double-doubles in two matches, averaging 1.56 kills, 8.33 assists and 3.11 digs per set.

Kayla Walton, USF, Jr., RS

Walton helped lead USF to a 2-0 week, averaging 3.12 kills and 0.88 blocks per set.
