Wednesday Night in the BIG EAST

Villanova was swept on the road by Delaware last night in its final nonconference match of the season. They lost by scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-22. Both teams share a 10-12 overall mark. Offensively, freshman Brittany Rembert led the team with eight kills and sophomore Allie DiBernardo and freshman Emma Pettit dished out 13 and 11 assists respectively. On the defensive end, junior Mariah Henley led the team with 23 digs.


Conference Leaders Ranked Nationally

Senior Lola Arslanbekova of Louisville continues to move up the national rankings in kills per set. As of October 15, she ranks third in Division I with 4.95 and is nine shy of reaching 400 total kills for the season. Freshman Karin Palgutova of St. John's ranks fifth in the country in aces per set, averaging 0.52. She has 41 total aces. Sophomore Lindsey Gosh of Marquette is right behind Palgutova and is tied for eighth with 0.50.


What to Watch

Marquette (17-3, 7-0 BIG EAST) will host No. 15 Louisville (18-3, 7-1 BIG EAST) on Oct. 21. The seven BIG EAST wins by both schools are tied for most in the league. The Cardinals are one of only two teams to defeat Marquette in league play the last two seasons. Cincinnati (8-13, 6-2 BIG EAST) was the other team and will face Marquette on Oct. 19.
