Marquette's Carlson Named Volleyball BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Danielle Carlson of Marquette earned volleyball BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for her performance in two wins last week. Connecticut freshman Immanuella Anagu was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as the Huskies went 2-0.


Carlson helped lead Marquette to road wins over Georgetown and Villanova last week. The senior recorded a .519 hitting percentage with just two errors on 52 total attempts. Against Georgetown on Oct. 26, she tallied 16 kills without registering an error and added six blocks. She followed up that performance with 13 kills in three sets against Villanova on Oct. 28.  Carlson averaged 4.14 kills and 1.43 blocks per set in the 2-0 week.


Anagu and the Huskies went 2-0 last week with wins over Rutgers and Seton Hall. In the win against the Pirates on Oct. 28, the freshman recorded 17 kills with just three errors and six blocks. For the week, she averaged 2.88 kills per set with a .340 hitting percentage and 14 total blocks for a 1.75 per set average.


Weekly Honor Roll:

Kelsey Maving, Connecticut, Sr., L

Maving averaged 7.00 digs per set in a 2-0 week; tallied 34 digs against Seton Hall on Oct. 28.

Gwen Rucker, Louisville, Sr., MB

Rucker recorded a .667 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep against Cincinnati on Oct. 28; tallied 11 kills on 16 attempts and just one error.

Hilary Eppink, Notre Dame, Sr., MB

Eppink averaged 3.14 kills and 1.43 blocks per set in a 2-0 week; registered a .429 hitting percentage.

Stephanie Zielinski, Rutgers, Sr., S

Zielinski averaged 11.75 assists and 3.00 digs per set; dished out 60 assists and recorded 11 digs in a 3-2 win against St. John's on Oct. 28.

Karin Palgutova, St. John's, Fr., OH

Palgutova recorded two double-doubles last week; averaged 4.67 kills, 2.67 digs and 1.11 blocks per set.
