BIG EAST Volleyball Championship: Cincinnati vs Louisville 2010

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - In a rematch of the 2009 championship game, the No. 1 seed Cincinnati Bearcats and the No. 2 seed Louisville Cardinals face-off in the 2010 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship title match. Louisville is making its sixth-straight trip to the final, making it to the last game of the championship every season that it has been a member of the conference. This is the second consecutive season the Bearcats have qualified for the title match as the team looks for its first BIG EAST crown. The No. 1 seed Bearcats have yet to lose a set in the 2010 championship, sweeping No. 8 seed USF on Friday and No. 5 seed Notre Dame on Saturday. Cincinnati has posted a .341 hitting percentage over the two matches while notching a 15.00 kills per set average. On the defensive side, the Bearcats have held opponents to a .125 hitting percentage, the lowest average of the eight teams in the BIG EAST Championship. The No. 2 seed Cardinals have avenged regular-season losses to Seton Hall and Marquette in their run to the championship match. The 2009 BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player, Lola Arslanbekova, leads the championship with 5.00 kills per set. The sophomore has a pair of double-doubles, going for 25 kills and 10 digs against Seton Hall and 15 kills and 10 digs against Marquette. Louisville has won three of the last four BIG EAST Championship titles, including defeating Cincinnati 3-1 in 2009. Arslanbekova had a match-high 25 kills last year, while the Cardinals used their defense to out-block the Bearcats 13-4. Then-junior Stephanie Niemer led UC with 17 kills while then-freshman Jordanne Scott recorded 15 kills. The title match begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be exclusively broadcast live on ESPNU. Beth Mowins and Krista Blunk will have the call.
