Georgetown, Creighton Split BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Weekly Honors

NEW YORK  –  The No. 1 Bluejays remain undefeated at 5-0 with a victory at Michigan State, while Georgetown went 2-0 for the week, including a 3-1 win against the then-No. 1 team, UCLA. This week’s award winners include Georgetown’s Brandon Allen for Offensive Player of the Week,  Creighton’s Vincent Keller as a repeat of Defensive Player of the Week and Georgetown’s JT Marcinkowski earns both Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Week honors.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brandon Allen, Georgetown, Sr., F, Old Bridge, N.J. –  Allen led the BIG EAST last week in all scoring categories: points (7), goals (2) and assists (3). In the Hoyas’ 3-1 victory over then-No. 1 UCLA, the senior forward assisted two of the three goals, including the final goal in the 88th minute in a three-on-two situation to seal the victory. Over the weekend, Allen added two goals and an assist in a 5-2 victory over Radford.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Vincent Keller, Creighton, Sr., D, Freiburg, Germany . – Keller repeats as Defensive Player of the Week as he played a key role in helping No. 1 Creighton remain undefeated over the weekend in a 1-0 win at two-time NCAA quarterfinalist Michigan State. Keller anchored a defense that held the Spartans to just one shot on goal in 90 minutes of action. It was the fewest number of shots in a home game since Nov. 3, 2010 as they were shut out at home for just the second time since Nov. 6, 2013.
 
GOALKEEPER & FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
JT Marcinkowski, Georgetown, Fr., GK, Alamo, Calif. – Rookie keeper Marcinkowski went 2-0 in a week that included a victory over then-No. 1 UCLA at home. The Alamo, Calif., native collected 10 saves for the week, six against the Bruins, holding them to just one goal in a 3-1 Hoya win. Marcinkowski gave up just two goals for the week, including one penalty kick. He managed four saves in the 5-2 win against Radford. His 10 saves for the week were a league best.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll
Caleb Postlewait, Butler, Sr., M, Grand Rapids, Mich. – Tied for second in the league points per game this week after posting one his best two-way matches of his career in a 4-0 win over Drake. He anchored a defense that posted Butler’s second shutout of 2015, while also contributing a goal and an assist. The goal proved to be the game-winner as he converted a penalty kick in the first half.
 
Fabian Herbers, Creighton, Jr., F, Ahaus, Germany – Scored the game-winner at Michigan State, his third game-winner of the season, in No. 1 Creighton’s only game this week. The Bluejays defeated the Spartans at home 1-0 with Herbers’ goal scored 40 seconds before the end of the half.
 
Jake Taylor, Marquette, Jr., D, Whitefish Bay, Wis.  – Taylor registered his first goal of the season, the game-winner in the 85th minute, against previously undefeated No. 23 Nebraska-Omaha  in a 1-0 victory for the Golden Eagles. The game was Marquette’s first shutout of the season.
 
Mac Steeves, Providence, Jr., F, Needham, Mass. – Registered both of the Friars goals over the weekend, tying him for first in the league in goals and third in points in a 1-2 week for Providence. Both of the losses were 2-1 golden goal losses in overtime.
 
Ian Vicars, Xavier, RS-Fr., M, Liverpool, England  – Scored the game-winner at Cincinnati in the 69th minute, finishing off a pass from about 10 yards out.
