Butler and Xavier score opening-night victories.

Xavier 71, New Hampshire 66 (OT)
Senior tandem Anniina Äijänen and Jada Byrd combined for 25 points to lead the Xavier women's basketball team to a 71-66 overtime win against New Hampshire. The game was the first matchup in the Lauren Hill Tipoff Classic at Cintas Center. New Hampshire never trailed during the opening three quarters and led by as many as 13 points, 16-3, at the 5:05 mark in the first stanza. Anniina Äijänen buried a three pointer on the first possession of the fourth quarter to give the Musketeers their first lead of the game, 46-45. Neither team led by more than two possessions for the remainder of regulation. With one second left in regulation, Anniina Äijänen hit a three pointer to tie the game at 62 and send the game into overtime. Xavier's defense limited the Wildcats to only one field goal (1-for-7) in overtime to seal the win.

Butler 75, Austin Peay 54
Whitney Jennings was terrific in her Butler debut with a game-high 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting. Jennings ended the contest with 30 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals. She went 4-for-8 from distance and knocked down all four of her free throw attempts. After a back-and-forth opening five minutes, the Bulldogs limited the Governors to 12 second-quarter points to take an 11-point halftime lead. Butler led by as many as 24 thanks to a dominating inside presence which saw 30 points in the paint and a 38-23 rebounding margin.
