Spolyar’s buzzer-beater pushes Butler past NR/RV Virginia Tech, 79-77.

RV/RV Villanova 60, James Madison 57
Villanova tallied a 60-57 win over the James Madison Dukes in the first round of the TD Bank University of Vermont Thanksgiving Tournament. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Dukes fall to 1-4. The teams traded leads for the opening 14 minutes before Villanova took the advantage midway through the second quarter and never relinquished. The Dukes outscored the Wildcats 20-11 in the final quarter to make a run, but Adrianna Hahn’s 15 points kept Villanova ahead until the final buzzer.

St. John's 76, Western Michigan 48
For the third-straight game, St. John’s had at least four players score in double figures as the Red Storm (3-0) defeated Western Michigan (2-3), 76-48, in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Showcase at Germain Arena. Akina Wellere led the offense with a team-high 16 points. The Chicago native hit seven of her 12 attempts from the floor including two of her four tries from long distance. As a team, the Red Storm shot 49.2 percent from the field while holding the Broncos to just 29.2 percent. The Johnnies hit 5-of-16 from deep while limiting Western Michigan to just a 2-for-14 showing from long distance.

20/20 Marquette 87, Montana 68           
Natisha Hiedeman led four in double figures as Marquette beat Montana, 87-68 in the final game at the Cancun Challenge on Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. Hiedeman poured in a game-high 21 points for the Golden Eagles while classmate Allazia Blockton added 17 points. For her performance in both games of the Cancun Challenge, Blockton was selected to the all-tournament team with 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds combined against Tennesse and the Griz. Montana led for less for a minute before Marquette ballooned its advantage up to 29 late in the game.

Auburn 60, Georgetown 40        
Georgetown dropped a 60-40 decision to the Auburn Tigers (3-1) Friday evening at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in the first game of the Challenge in Music City. The Hoyas hung around for the first three quarters, but a late run was too much to overcome to drop to 2-2 on the season. Mikayla Venson was the lone Hoya in double figures with 19 points hitting 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.

RV/21 DePaul 81, Memphis 67  
Behind Tanita Allen’s 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals, RV/21 DePaul knocked off Memphis 81-67 in its second game of the Play4Kay Showcase. The Blue Demons (4-2) led by as many as 21 thanks to 33 points off turnovers and 26 bench points. DePaul forced 30 Tiger miscues on the night, with Kelly Campbell registering six steals.

Butler 79, NR/RV Virginia Tech 77            
Kristen Spolyar hit a corner 3-pointer in front of the BU bench with just one second on the game clock to lift the Bulldogs to victory on Friday night. The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 overall after defeating Virginia Tech 79-77. Spolyar ended the night with 20 points. Butler led Virginia Tech for a majority of the game, but a late 3-pointer from Aisha Sheppard would give the Hokies a one-point lead with just 13 seconds remaining. The final play of the game would send the ball Whitney Jennings on the wing. Jennings made the extra pass and Spolyar would knock down her third 3-point field goal of the contest to win the game. Butler's top performer against the Hokies was junior Tori Schickel, who scored a game-high 27 points while adding 15 rebounds.

NR/RV Washington 67, Creighton 64      
Down 56-44 midway through the final period, Creighton battled back to knot the game at 60-60 before falling to Washington 67-64 in Las Vegas. The loss dropped the Bluejays to 3-2 on the season, while the Huskies evened their mark at 2-2. Audrey Faber led Creighton with 19 points in the game, while Jaylyn Agnew finished with 16 and Sydney Lamberty closed with 12.
