NEW YORK – Denver bounces back into the win column with a 12-11 victory over then-No. 16 Towson on the road earning Defensive Player of the Week honors for Trevor Baptiste and Freshman of the Week awards for Ethan Walker. Villanova went 2-0 over the week helped by Jake Froccaro’s 11 points on offense as the senior earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week accolades.
 
Marquette earned the first BIG EAST win to be had this season with an 11-10 victory at Georgetown.
 
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Jake Froccaro, Villanova, Sr., A/M (Sands Point, N.Y.)
The senior Villanova attacker led the league in scoring last week with 11 points, scoring four goals in each of Villanova’s two wins over Bucknell and Fairfield. In Villanova’s 18-9 win over Fairfield, Froccaro added an assist to his four goals, which he scored on just six shots. He also picked up four ground balls and caused a turnover. Against Bucknell, Froccaro added two assists as well as eight ground balls and went 11-for-19 from the faceoff dot adding to VU’s possessions. Froccaro also caused two turnovers. His four goals came on just 10 shots, eight on target.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Trevor Baptiste, Denver, Jr., FOGO (Denville, N.J.)
Baptiste played an integral role in Denver’s 12-11 victory over then-No. 16 Towson on Saturday as he won 20 of 26 from the faceoff dot and collected eight ground balls to keep the possession away from the Tigers. Baptiste went against Towson’s Alex Woodall, who was previously ranked sixth in the nation in faceoff wins. Towson knocked Denver out of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ethan Walker, Denver, Fr., A (Peterborough, Ontario)
The rookie scored four goals and added an assist for five points in the then-No. 6/7 Pioneers 12-11 win over then-No. 16 Towson on Saturday. Walker’s hat trick was the fifth of his freshman season. His four goals came on just eight shots as he put six on goal. He also collected four ground balls. Walker scored the second, fifth, eighth and 12th goals of the game.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Peter Conley, Georgetown, RS-Jr., A (Mamaroneck, N.Y.)
Conley did all he could in a 0-2 week for the Hoyas as he scored four goals with four assists (eight points). His stat line also included seven ground balls and his 100th career point scored.
Cole Blazer, Marquette, Jr., GK (Libertyville, Ill.)
Blazer earned his first BIG EAST win of the season with a 14-save performances at Georgetown. He allowed 10 goals in the victory. Six of his saves came in the fourth quarter as MU held on to maintain a one-goal lead over the Hoyas.
Joe Dunn, Marquette, Sr., A (West Chester, Pa.)
Dunn scored a career-best four goals in an 11-10 win over Georgetown, giving the Golden Eagles their first league win of the season.
Tate Boyce, Providence, So., GK (Mathews, N.C.)
Boyce helped Providence go 2-0 last week with wins over UMass-Lowell and Drexel, a 9-8 overtime victory. For the week, he stopped 27 shots and picked up 10 ground balls. He allowed only 10 goals for the week for a 5.08 goals against average and a .730 save percentage in 118 minutes of action.
Nick Testa, Villanova, So., GK (Rexford, N.Y.)
Testa earned two wins for VU with 21 totals saves and a 7.71 goals against average and .583 save percentage. He had seven saves in a 13-8 win vs. Bucknell and 14 in a 18-9 win over Fairfield.
