BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Jared Timmer, Butler, Jr., M (Hudsonville, Mich.)
Butler junior midfielder Jared Timmer scored the game-winner Friday night, giving the No. 25 Bulldogs a 1-0 overtime win over Illinois-Chicago, the defending Horizon League champions and NCAA tournament team. Timmer’s header off a free kick came in the 95th minute. Timmer had three shots on the night, including two on goal. He played all 95 minutes.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Cameron Taylor, Xavier, RS-Jr., D (Indianapolis, Ind.)
XU’s Cameron Taylor played 184 minutes in two games for the Musketeers during opening weekend, anchoring a defense that limited opponents Drake and Loyola-Chicago to 16 total shots. In Sunday’s shutout win over Drake, Taylor and his fellow defenders kept the Bulldogs’ shot count to just five. In a tough 2-1 overtime loss to Loyola-Chicago on Friday, the Ramblers were limited to 11 shots with just two corner kick opportunities. In addition to his defensive efforts, Taylor scored the first goal in each match.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Eric Dick, Butler, RS-Sr., GK (Carmel, Ind.)
Butler senior keeper Eric Dick orchestrated a shutout as the No. 25 Bulldogs posted a 1-0 win over Illinois-Chicago in the 2017 season-opener. In 95 minutes of work, Dick made three saves. UIC made 14 shots in his direction.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Istvan Wilhelms, DePaul, Fr., M (Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan)
Wilhelms contributed 187 minutes in two overtime losses for DePaul this weekend. Wilhelms had a stellar start to his collegiate career scoring a goal against NIU, while tallying an assist against Illinois-Chicago to collect three points. Wilhelms played all 96 minutes in the season-opener against Northern Illinois.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Marios Lomis, Creighton, Sr., F (Bennebroek, Netherlands)
Lomis scored the golden goal in the 106th minute of Creighton’s 1-0 double overtime win over Grand Canyon on Sunday night. It was his first goal as a Bluejay. He totaled 135 minutes in a 1-1-0 week for Creighton starting both matches.
JT Marcinkowski, Georgetown, Jr., GK (Alamo, Calif.)
The Hoya keeper posted his first shutout of the season behind two goals from the Georgetown offense on Friday. Marcinkowski made three saves in the win.
Joao Serrano, Providence, RS-So., D (Evora, Portugal)
Despite an 0-2 start for the Friars, Serrano had a goal against No. 4 UNC and an assist in the long goal against No. 2 Wake Forest.
Harry Cooksley, St. John’s, Sr., M/F (London, England)
Cooksley had four points in St. John’s season-opening win over Drexel with a goal and two assist.
Steven Catudal, Seton Hall, So., GK (Sacramento, Calif.)
In his Pirate debut, Catudal made seven saves and played all 110 minutes in a 1-1 draw for Seton Hall against Saint Peter’s. The newcomer was tested off right away with a penalty kick save in the second minute of action.
