NEW YORK – Sunday afternoon featured the final two volleyball matches of the first week of BIG EAST play. Creighton extended its BIG EAST winning streak to 26 matches and head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth celebrated win No. 300 at the helm of the Bluejays with a 3-1 win over Villanova. Providence improved to 2-0 in league action winning a five-match thriller against Georgetown on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Week two of BIG EAST play starts on Wednesday as Marquette plays at Xavier and Butler hosts DePaul.
No. 15 Creighton 3, Villanova 1 (25-20,23-25,25-19,25-16)
Creighton’s Brittany Witt and Lydia Dimke had double-doubles in the four-match win over Villanova. Witt had 12 digs to go with a career-high 12 assists for her first career double-double, while Dimke returned after missing two matches to record 43 assists and 18 digs, adding seven kills on .500 hitting. Dimke's return helped Creighton (9-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) hit .292 in the four-set win, with four players supplying double-figure kills. Jaali Winters had a season-high 18 kills. Ashley Knight led Villanova (7-6, 0-2 BIG EAST) with 33 assists and 13 digs, and Darcy Wolf came off the bench to supply 10 kills on .290 hitting. The Wildcats had 42 kills, five aces, 64 digs and seven blocks on .122 hitting. VU played without regular starters Emma Decker and Allie Loitz.

Providence 3, Georgetown 2 (19-25,25-18,25-19,23-25,15-7)
Providence’s Addison Root recorded a match-high 21 kills with three blocks and three digs to lead the Friars, while Megan Onyundo added 16 kills and seven digs. Teammate Lindsey Schaible had 14 kills and seven blocks for the Friars.
Providence rookie Allison Barber had 44 assists, six digs, four aces and three blocks in the victory. For Georgetown, Symone Speech led the way with 17 kills and four blocks while Paige McKnight notched 54 assists and six digs in the setback. Georgetown hit .292 (66 kills, 26 errors, 137 attacks while Providence hit an impressive .410 (59 kills, 9 errors, 122 attacks) in the match. With the win, the Friars improved to 13-4 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST on the season. Georgetown dropped to 6-8 (0-2 BIG EAST).
