Marquette’s Howard, Georgetown’s Blair Earn Weekly MBB Honors
NEW YORK – Marquette guard Markus Howard has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after tying the league’s single game scoring record, setting the record for 3-pointers in a game and recording the conference’s two highest scoring totals this season. Georgetown guard Jahvon Blair was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after helping the Hoyas win their first league game of the season.

Markus Howard, Marquette, G, So. – Howard tied the BIG EAST scoring record with 52 points and averaged 44.5 points in two contests. His 52-point effort came in a 95-90 overtime win at Providence when he also set a BIG EAST record with 11 made 3-pointers. In a 100-90 loss at Villanova, Howard scored 37 points and dished eight assists. For the two games, he shot 53.6 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from beyond the arc and made all 13 free throw attempts. He has not missed a free throw all season in 51 tries. Howard leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 23.5 average.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jahvon Blair, Georgetown, G, Fr. – Blair averaged 11.5 points in a 1-1 week for the Hoyas which included a 90-81 victory at DePaul, Georgetown’s first league win of the season. Blair came off the bench to score 15 points in only 20 minutes of playing time. Blair had eight points in a 90-66 loss to Creighton.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Martin Krampelj, Creighton, F, So.
Averaged 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week while recording a pair of double-doubles. Had 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 78-71 win over St. John’s and 12 points and 11 boards in a 90-66 victory at Georgetown.
Marin Maric, DePaul, C, Gr.
Averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 1-1 week. Shot 70.6 percent from the field. In a 91-74 win at St. John’s, had 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
Kyron Cartwright, Providence, G, Sr.
Averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had 19 points, nine assists and four steals in an 81-72 win versus Xavier.
Angel Delgado, Seton Hall, C, Sr.
Posted 28 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in a 90-87 win at Butler. Has a nation-leading 62 career double-doubles.
Jalen Brunson, Villanova, G, Jr.
In a 100-90 win against Marquette, had 27 points, eight rebounds and only two turnovers in 33 minutes.
