Hoyas Are First Team In
No. 4 Georgetown is the first team to qualify for the 2018 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship presented by Jeep. The Hoyas picked up their 18
th points of league season with a win over Providence on Sunday. GU can drop no lower than sixth in the standings, with the top six teams qualifying for the league tournament. Georgetown will lock up a first-round bye with a win Thursday, as the top two teams at season’s end advance directly to the semifinals.
Xavier 3, Marquette 0
Samantha Dewey had a goal and assist as the Musketeers picked up a home win over the Golden Eagles on Saturday. Claire Fisher’s 40
th-minute goal proved to be the game winner before XU tacked on two second-half scores, with Dewey assisting in the 58
th minute and scoring in the 84
th. Toni Bizzarro made eight saves for Xavier, which was outshot 16-13 by Marquette, including a 12-5 margin over the final 45 minutes.

Creighton 1, Villanova 0
The lone goal of the game came in the 55th minute as Kaira Houser drew a foul in the box to earn a Creighton penalty kick. Taryn Jakubowski stepped up to strike the ball, putting the Bluejays up 1-0. Villanova outshot Creighton 21-7, while the Wildcats held a 14-2 lead on corners. Katie Sullivan made six saves in the shutout while VU’s Chloe O’Neill totaled a game-high five shots.

The Farrell-Schechtman 1-2 punch struck again as the Hoyas remained undefeated in BIG EAST play. Caitlin Farrell scored her 14
th goal of the season, fifth of the game-winning variety, this time in the 83
rd minute. It marked the ninth consecutive game the BIG EAST’s leading scorer notched a goal. Meanwhile Arielle Schechtman claimed her 10
th shutout of the season, making two saves in 90 minutes of work. PC’s Shelby Hogan had seven saves.

Butler 2, DePaul 1
The Blue Demons struck first as Franny Cerny scored her eighth of the season to give DePaul the lead heading into halftime. Halle Stelbasky knotted it up at 1-1 off a penalty kick in the 54
th minute, before Katie Soderstrom scored the game winner for the Bulldogs with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. Hannah Luedtke and Leonie Doege each made a save for Butler, while Mollie Eriksson had five saves for DePaul.

Zsani Kajan posted her second consecutive multi-goal game to lead the Red Storm, who stretched their unbeaten streak to three matches. Kajan struck in the 46

th minutes to bump her season goals total to 11, while Meredith Reinhardt made two saves for the clean sheet win. Eva Gonzalez had three shots for the Pirates, while Anna MacLean had four stops.
