BIG EAST teams combine for 8-3 record between Saturday and Monday.

Weekend Round Up
BIG EAST teams combined for 11 games between Saturday and Monday, with the bulk of the contests played on Sunday, posting an 8-3 mark. Providence played a pair of games at the Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament hosting by Rhode Island, going 1-1, while No. 20/14 DePaul had the lone Monday contest – knocking off Temple in emphatic fashion during midday action. Also of note, Butler remained undefeated on the season by picking up its sixth win of the year, No. 18/17 Marquette knocked off then-RV/RV Michigan, Seton Hall defeated Saint Peter’s for its BIG EAST-best seventh victory of 2018-19, Creighton topped rival Nebraska for a third consecutive season, Villanova limited Saint Joseph’s to just 35 points and Xavier survived in overtime for its fourth-straight win. There are no games scheduled for the remainder of Monday or Tuesday of this week.
 
16/14 DePaul 102, Temple 88
The nationally ranked Blue Demons eclipsed the century mark for the second time in three games, playing in front of a packed house Monday at DePaul’s annual Field Trip Day at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Six Blue Demons scored in double figures led by Ashton Millender’s 23, while recently crowned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Lexi Held scored 13 points in just 11 minutes. DePaul ended the first quarter with a double-digit lead which swelled to as many as 23 thanks to .463 shooting. The 102 points are the second-most scored in the BIG EAST this season behind the Blue Demons’ own tally of 124 on Nov. 26 against Savannah State.

22/17 Marquette 85, RV/RV Michigan 74
The Golden Eagles outscored the Wolverines (5-3) by 10 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 52-32 lead into halftime and never looked back en route to its third-straight win and fifth home victory in as many tries. For the second time this season, all five starters reached in double figures scoring led by senior Erika Davenport, who poured in a season-high 21 points to go along with eight rebounds. MU led by as many as 28 thanks to .462 shooting and a 39-28 rebounding advantage.

Butler 64, Ball State 47
The Bulldogs improved to 6-0 on the young 2018-19 season by recording a 64-47 win over in-state rival Ball State. Whitney Jennings scored a game-high 20 points while fellow senior Tori Schickel ended the day with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Schickel notched her fourth double-double of the season despite playing through a constant double team on Sunday. She shot 4-of-8 to net her 11 points, but kept her eyes on her teammates to dish out a career-high eight assists. The do-it-all senior also led Butler in blocks with four.

Seton Hall 90, Saint Peter’s 47
With the new fast-paced, high-scoring, 3-pointer-heavy offense implemented by the Pirates (7-1) this season, program records are destined to fall. Nicole Jimenez made sure of that on Sunday when she knocked down a school-record nine 3-pointers and scored a career-high 33 points in a 90-47 rout of Saint Peter's inside Walsh Gym. Jimenez scored early and often for the Pirates, finishing her day with a crisp 11-of-15 mark from the floor and a 9-for-13 effort from 3-point range. In 36 minutes of action she also sparked an inspired defensive effort for the Pirates with a total of nine steals, one shy of the program record. The senior guard became the 10th player in SHU history to score at least 33 points in a game.

Xavier 94, North Alabama 81 (OT)
A'riana Gray and Na'Teshia Owens led Xavier (6-1) to an overtime win versus North Alabama on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. The two players combined for 44 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists and five steals, while going 18-for-30 from the floor. Xavier outscored North Alabama, 15-2, in overtime to pull away for the victory. In the OT period, the Musketeers were 3-for-4 from the floor and 8-for-13 from the foul line in the period; defensively, Xavier limited the Lions to a .100 field-goal percentage (1-for-10) and forced three turnovers. The 94 points are the most points in a game by Xavier since Feb. 21, 2011 (102-51 win vs La Salle).

Villanova 47, Saint Joseph’s 35
The Wildcats defense held the host Hawks to just .277 shooting, while forcing 15 turnovers, as Villanova picked up its fifth win of the season. Adrianna Hahn posted 17 points for the second straight game, making 7-of-12 attempts from the field. Tied at 35 with 6:30 remaining, VU close the game on a 12-0 run which included a pair of three-pointers by Grace Stant and Jannah Tucker.

Creighton 74, Nebraska 65
A 21-7 run spanning most of the third quarter helped Creighton overcome a halftime deficit to defeat Nebraska, 74-65, at D.J. Sokol Arena on Sunday. The Bluejay victory clinched a third straight victory over the Huskers for the first time in 45 all-time meetings between the in-state rivals. Tatum Rembao entered the afternoon averaging 6.8 points per game, but the sophomore provided career-highs with 18 points and six assists. Bluejay teammate Audrey Faber attained her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Olivia Elger contributed 16 points.

Wake Forest 64, St. John’s 59
Despite a 20-point fourth quarter effort, the St. John's women's basketball team fell short to Wake Forest, 64-59, on Sunday afternoon at LJVM Coliseum. Tiana England continued to produce for the Red Storm, finishing just shy of a double-double with a team-high 16 points and nine assists. The Stamford, Conn., native also added five rebounds and grabbed trio of steals for the Red Storm. Qadashah Hoppie picked up 15 points and five boards in 31 minutes of action. The Staten Island native drained 5-of-10 from the field, hitting 3-of-7 from three-point range.

Providence 72, Bryant 64 | Rhode Island 72, Providence 65
A four-game week in which PC went 3-1 saw half its games played Saturday and Sunday, falling to host URI on Saturday before knocking off nearby foe Bryant on Sunday. Jovana Nogic stood out for the Friars, averaging 21.0 points off .421 three-point shooting in the two-game set, leading a Providence squad which shot .408 from the field as a team. Rookie Mary Baskerville also posted a solid weekend, coming off the bench to average 10.5 points and 7.0 rebounds.

VCU 47, Georgetown 45
Separated by no more than two possessions for the final 16 minutes, the Hoyas dropped a heartbreaker at home to VCU on Sunday. The Rams went ahead by five with 21 seconds left before Dionna White scored a three-pointer to narrow the gap to two. The Hoyas fouled to send VCU to the line, where it missed both freebies and Dorothy Adomako corralled the rebound to give Georgetown one last shot. Unfortunately Mikayla Venson’s game-winner attempt did not fall. White and Adomako each scored 14 for the Hoyas.
