CHICAGO — Host DePaul made sure there would be no repeat of the last time Georgetown was in town.
The second seed RV/RV Blue Demons (25-7) dominated in the paint and beyond the arc throughout Monday’s Big East tournament semifinal game at Wintrust Arena on the way to an 85-53 victory over the No. 6 seed Hoyas.
For the game, DePaul shot 48.5 percent (33-of-68), collected 44 points inside, 30 more on 3-pointers and out rebounded Georgetown 51-39.
The Hoyas managed 29.2 percent shooting (19-of-65).
Ashton Millender led a balanced DePaul attack with 15 points, Amarah Coleman had 13 while Kelly Campbell and Chante Stonewall had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Campbell also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to record her ninth double-double of the season.
Cynthia Petke topped Georgetown (15-15) with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Millender scored eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to help DePaul to a 17-13 lead through the first quarter.
The Blue Demons opened the second period with a 10-1 run and held a 27-14 lead at the 6:53 mark. DePaul used an 11-4 run over the final 5:13 to extend its lead to 38-22 by halftime.
Ten unanswered third quarter points pushed DePaul’s lead to 27 points at 53-26 and put the game just about out of reach for Georgetown.
Lauren Prochaska’s baseline 3-pointer extended the lead past 30 at 60-29 on the way to a 63-34 advantage entering the final period.
The teams split two regular season meetings, each with road wins. DePaul used a late surge en route to a 78-62 triumph in Washington on Jan. 21. The Blue Demons now hold an 19-3 all-time series lead.
With the win, the Blue Demons advance to the tournament final for the fourth time in the past five years. DePaul won the title in 2014 and 2015, before falling to Marquette on the Golden Eagles home floor last season. The Blue Demons will look to avenge last season's loss, after the two teams split their regular season series.
