Weekend At A Glance
BIG EAST women’s soccer teams combined for a 7-6-3 (.531) opening weekend record, including a combined 4-0-2 mark by Providence, RV Butler, No. 22 Georgetown and Marquette. The Friars were the lone squad to pick up two wins over the opening four days, claiming home victories over Holy Cross and Fairleigh Dickinson. The nationally ranked Hoyas made a statement on the road, going unbeaten with a win over Georgia and draw at Virginia Tech. The weekend was capped by a notable win for Villanova at RV LSU, as the Wildcats used Bri Austin’s 93
rd-minute golden goal to upset the host Tigers, 2-1 in overtime. Also of note, DePaul exploded for seven goals in its first win of the season, knocking off visiting UMass Lowell 7-0 on Sunday as Morgan Turner notched the first hat trick by a BIG EAST player this season.

A trio of games are set for Monday night, including the first contest of the season covered by the BIG EAST Digital Network. Moved up to a 6 p.m. ET start, Marquette will host rival RV Wisconsin at Valley Fields with the game streaming live on BEDN. The Golden Eagles played to a scoreless draw in Thursday’s opener at Cal Poly, while the Badgers will take the pitch for the first time this season after weather forced a cancellation of last week’s opener. Wisconsin advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, and MU and UW last faced each other in the NCAAs in 2016. Also set for Monday, St. John’s looks to pick up its first win of 2018 when it hosts Buffalo, while RV Butler will aim to remain unbeaten when it hosts IUPUI, with both matches slated for 7 p.m. starts.
