Movin’ On Up
Following a 1-0-1 opening weekend on the road, Georgetown jumped seven spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll to No. 15. The Hoyas defeated Georgia and posted a draw against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg to begin 2018. GU will face its toughest test yet when it hosts No. 11 Duke on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET in a game streaming on the BIG EAST Digital Network. The Blue Devils fell eight slots in the poll to No. 11 after a 1-1-0 opening weekend which included a 2-0 win over Ohio State and 2-1 loss to Illinois. Butler improved to 2-0-0 on the season following last night’s win over IUPUI and continued to receive votes in the national poll for the second straight week. The Bulldogs will also face a top-25 opponent this week when they host No. 20 Notre Dame on Sunday at 1 p.m. That match will also stream on BEDN.

BIG EAST teams went 2-1-0 on Monday night, as RV Butler remained undefeated (2-0-0) with a 2-0 home win over IUPUI, St. John’s (1-1-0) picked up its first win of 2018 with a 3-1 victory over Buffalo, and Marquette dropped a 2-0 decision to rival RV Wisconsin. Butler rookie Anja Savich, the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, scored her third goal in two games with Monday’s strike being a 14
th-minute game winner. Lucy Whipp scored a pair of goals for the Red Storm, while Samie Scaffidi was credited with two assists, including the helper on Zsain Kajan’s game winner in the 27
th minute. Maddy Henry made six saves in net for the Golden Eagles, who fell to 0-1-1 on the season.

Tuesday is dark for all BIG EAST teams before a single match on Wednesday sees Villanova host James Madison at 4 p.m. The Wildcats are coming off a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over then-RV LSU on Sunday, while the Dukes also stand at 1-1-0 on the year following Sunday’s 3-0 win over Maryland.
