NEW YORK – Liberty takes two of the first BIG EAST weekly field hockey awards of the season with Agueda Moroni as Offensive Player of the Week and goalie Allison Schaefer as Defensive Player of the Week. Connecticut rookie defender Karo Kueskes was named Freshman of the Week.

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Agueda Moroni, Liberty, Sr., M/F (Cordoba, Argentina)

Liberty senior midfielder/forward Agueda Moroni led the BIG EAST in the opening weekend of play with 11 points (5.50 per game) off four goals and three assists. The No. 23 Liberty Flames defeated No. 17 James Madison, 6-1, but lost in overtime, 4-3 at No. 3 Duke. Moroni scored three of Liberty’s six goals at JMU, with two assists. Nine of her 13 shots were on goal. Moroni scored the second, fourth and sixth goals. At Duke, Moroni  scored Liberty’s second goal and assisted the game-tying third goal in the 59th minute.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Allison Schaefer, Liberty, Jr., GK (Millersville, Pa.)
Liberty keeper Allison Schaefer posted 15 saves in a 1-1-0 week, allowing just five goals with a 2.46 goals against average in 142:11 minutes played. Schaefer had a four-save outing at No. 17 James Madison, where she held the Dukes to just one goal as the Flames won 6-1. At No. 3 Duke, Schaefer made 11 saves but suffered a 4-3 loss in overtime when the Blue Devils scored in the 73rd minute. For the weekend, her save percentage was .750.

 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Karo Kueskes, Connecticut, Fr., D (Moenchengladbach, Germany)   
Connecticut rookie defender Karo Kueskes helped the No. 1 Huskies to a 2-0 start to the season as she not only tallied seven points, but also helped ho ranked opponents, No. 12 Northwestern and No. 15 Stanford to just two combined goals. Kueskes scored two goals and added an assist in Connecticut’s 4-2 win over Northwestern. The defense limited the Wildcats to just six shots on goal. Against Stanford, Connecticut posted a shutout victory, with Kueskes scoring one of the three goals. Her goal was the first of the game, a penalty corner in the 48th minute. The defense limited Stanford to just one shot on goal, three shots overall.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Ciara Weets, Georgetown, Fr., GK (Springfield, Va.)
Weets posted back-to-back shutouts for the Hoyas during the opening weekend with eight total saves, five in the 1-0 win over Davidson and three in the 2-0 win over Appalachian State. Georgetown hasn’t had back-to-back shutouts since before 2002.
Erin Huffman, Old Dominion, Jr., F (Annville, Pa.)
Huffman scored the game winners in both Old Dominion victories last weekend. Old Dominion defeated Michigan State, 2-0 on the road and Kent State 1-0. Huffman had three shots on goal. Huffman’s game-winning goal over Kent State was scored on a penalty stroke.
Hannah Teicher, Quinnipiac, Sr., GK (Bethesda, Md.)
Teicher recorded her first career victory as she made her first start and played in her first game since the 2016 season. She tallied six saves in the victory, which tied her personal best in saves. Teicher helped Quinnipiac turn away seven penalty corners in the second half of Sunday’s 2-1 win at Vermont.
