Providence clinches weekend sweep, No. 14/13 Marquette remains undefeated, RV/RV Butler gets back on track, Seton Hall earns road upset, Hoyas hang on.

Providence 71, Xavier 58
The Friars claimed their first weekend sweep since conference realignment and are off to their best eight-game start to BIG EAST play since 2011-12 with Sunday’s home win over the Musketeers. Providence set the tone early and never trailed, erupting for 46 first-half points, most in a single half for the Friars this year. Jovana Nogic led all scorers with 16 to go along with four boards and four assists, while Xavier was anchored by A’riana Gray’s 10th double-double of the year with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Both teams drained double-digit three-pointers, the fifth time this season for the Friars and sixth for the Musketeers.

RV/RV Butler 75, Creighton 43
The Bulldogs bounced back from a triple-overtime loss on Friday to score a strong win in Omaha on Sunday on FS1. Katherine Strong finished with a career-high 23 points off 9-14 shooting, adding three rebounds and a pair of assists as Butler remained alone in second place in the league standings with its sixth BIG EAST win of the year. BU’s impressive defense shined once again, forcing 22 Creighton miscues which it turned into 28 points. Whitney Jennings added 18 points while Tori Schickel collected her ninth double-double of the year with 10 points, 12 rebounds. Audrey Faber led Creighton with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Seton Hall 84, 24/24 DePaul 73
The Pirates picked up their first top-25 win in three years, knocking off the 24th-ranked Blue Demons to move into a third-place tie with DePaul in the BIG EAST standings. SHU’s last top-25 victory also came in Chicago against DePaul – Jan. 29, 2016, when the Blue Demons were No. 23/21 and The Hall was -/25. With DePaul up seven with under three minutes left in the first half, the Pirates closed the frame on a 9-0 run to take a two-point lead into intermission. Despite 11 Blue Demon three-pointers, SHU never trailed again thanks a 29-point fourth quarter sparked by Shadeen Samuels, who scored 12 of her game-high 18 in the fourth. DePaul’s Ashton Millender matched Samuels with 18, leading a trio of Blue Demons in double figures. Samuels was joined in double figures by four other Pirates, including Victoria Cardaci’s second-straight double-digit outing (12).

14/13 Marquette 83, St. John’s 73
A trio of Marquette players scored 20+ as the nationally ranked Golden Eagles fended off St. John’s upset bid Sunday in Milwaukee. The Red Storm got within four with 2:22 left, but MU went 7-of-8 at the charity stripe down the stretch to hold on. BIG EAST leading scorer Natisha Hiedeman went for a game-high 23 to go along with seven steals and five assists, while teammates Danielle King (22) and Erika Davenport (20) also reached the 20-point threshold. St. John’s Curteeona Brelove posted a career-best 22 points off 11-of-17 shooting, one of four Red Storm players in double figures. Allazia Blockton played 13 minutes for her first game action since suffering an injury early in MU’s BIG EAST opener on Dec. 29.

Georgetown 68, Villanova 63
For the fifth consecutive meeting between the longtime foes, the game was decided by single digits as the host Hoyas came out on top after 10 ties and nine lead changes. Neither team led by more than eight over the 40-minute contest despite a career-high 28 points from GU’s Dorothy Adomako. Adomako and Dionna White combined for 53 points, while four Wildcats scored in double figures led by Mary Gedaka’s 16 points off 8-of-9 shooting. Villanova led by seven with 5:25 remaining before Georgetown held the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of the game, finishing the contest on a 12-0 run to clinch its third BIG EAST win of the season. The victory was career No. 100 for GU head coach James Howard.
