Creighton's Alexander, Marquette's Hauser Earn #BIGEASTmbb Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – Creighton sophomore guard Ty-Shon Alexander has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Marquette’s freshman forward Joey Hauser has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both players helped lead their teams to a pair of victories this past week.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Ty-Shon Alexander, Creighton, G, So. – Alexander helped the Bluejays move into a third-place tie by averaging 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week. In a 91-87 victory at Georgetown, his stat line included 26 points, seven rebounds, four assists and no turnovers. His 3-pointer with 55.9 seconds left was the game’s go-ahead basket. In a 75-61 home win over Butler, he finished with a team-high 19 points. After averaging 5.5 points as a freshman, Alexander owns a 17.6 scoring mark this season.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Joey Hauser, Marquette, F, Fr. – Hauser averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles. He connected on 8-of-12 shots from 3-point range and was 9-of-10 from the foul line. In an 87-82 win at Xavier, Hauser scored a collegiate-high 21 points, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. The 6-9 forward wins weekly honors for the second straight week and fourth time this season.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Jessie Govan, Georgetown, C, Sr.
Averaged 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Posted 20 points and nine rebounds in a victory at St. John’s (89-78). Made 4-of-6 from 3-point range for the week.
Markus Howard, Marquette, G, Jr.
Averaged 27.0 points and 6.5 assists in a 2-0 week. Scored a game-high 31 points in victory at Xavier (87-82).
Alpha Diallo, Providence, G, Jr.
Averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a 2-0 week. Shot 14-of-14 from the foul line in a win over DePaul (70-67).
Phil Booth, Villanova, G, Sr.
In a 2-0 week, averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds. Scored 25 points in a win against Seton Hall (80-52).
Eric Paschall, Villanova, F, Sr.
Averaged 20.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Had 23 points, including five 3-points in a win at Butler (80-72).
