BIG EAST Offensive Player & Freshman of the Week
Wilmer Cabrera Jr., Butler, Fr., F (Bogota, Columbia)
Butler freshman forward Wilmer Cabrera Jr. earns both Offensive and Freshman of the Week honors after helping the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week with five points. Cabrera’s five points led the league last week. Cabrera scored the golden goal in the 98th minute in a 2-1 double overtime road victory at Lipscomb on Wednesday. Following his late-game heroics, he netted a goal and added an assist in Butler’s 4-0 BIG EAST win on the road at Seton Hall on Saturday. The freshman scored Butler’s insurance goal in the win on Saturday in the 35th minute. He also assisted the third goal in the 60th. Cabrera’s efforts helped the Bulldogs take sole possession of third in the league rankings at the midway point.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Dylan Nealis, Georgetown, Sr., D (Massapequa, N.Y.)
Georgetown senior defender Dylan Nealis helped the 13th-ranked Hoyas to a two-win two-shutout week with 1-0 victories over then-No. 25 Maryland and Xavier. Nealis helped protect the Georgetown net from opponent offensive efforts as he anchored a back line that held Maryland to two shots on goal, Xavier to four. Overall, Georgetown opponents only got off 12 total shots. He played all but three minutes in the 2-0 week.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Gabriel Gjergji, Butler, So., GK (Vizenza, Italy)
Butler keeper Gabriel Gjergji led the Bulldogs to a pair of road wins last week. In Saturday’s BIG EAST win, Gjergji posted his fourth shutout of the season, making five saves as Butler knocked off the Seton Hall Pirates, 4-0. Gjergji also picked up the overtime win at Lipscomb on Wednesday, logging nearly 98 minutes in the 2-1 win. He made two saves against the Bison.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Max de Bruijne, DePaul, Sr., D
de Bruijne helped DePaul shutout Providence, 2-0, on Saturday as he assisted insurance goal in the 88th minute. de Bruijne also helped hold the Friars to just four shots on goal.
Drew Nuelle, DePaul, RS-Jr., GK
Nuelle earned the shutout and BIG EAST victory against Providence on Saturday. The redshirt junior marked three saves in the victory.
Giannis Nikopolidis, Georgetown, So., GK
Nikopolidis saved four Xavier shots en route to a 1-0 shutout victory in league play on Saturday, helping the Hoyas hold steady at second place.
Patrick Seagrist, Marquette, Sr., D
Seagrist led a steady Marquette back line on the way to a clean sheet in a BIG EAST road win over Villanova. In addition to holding the Wildcats to just two shots on goal in 90 min of action, Seagrist headed away a goal scoring opportunity on the back post, later blocking a shot in the box, preserving the 1-0 win.
Brandon Knapp, St. John’s, So., M/D
Knapp helped St. John’s record its fifth straight shutout, the Red Storm’s longest clean sheet streak since 2011. The Red Storm defense, led by Knapp, helped hold Creighton to just three shots on goal, eight total shots in a 2-0 league road win on Saturday.
