Xavier’s Qureshi, St. John’s Shee Take Weekly Golf Honors
NEW YORK – Xavier junior Imaad Qureshi and St. John’s junior Kaitleen Shee have been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week and BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week, respectively. Qureshi shot 1-under par at the Musketeer Classic and Shee tied for medalist honors at the Lehigh Invitational.
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Imaad Qureshi, Xavier, Jr. – Qureshi tied for third place at the Musketeer Classic, which is the best finish of his career. The junior fired rounds of 71, 68 and 73 to finish with a 1-under 212. His 68 and tournament score are career lows. Qureshi led the tournament field with 14 birdies and added 28 pars. He leads Xavier this fall with a 74.58 stroke average.
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Kaitleen Shee, St. John’s, Jr. – Shee tapped in a birdie putt on the first playoff hole to claim medalist honors at the Lehigh Invitational for the second year in a row. For the 36-hole competition, Shee tied for first place with an 8-over 152 (75-77), one stroke ahead of teammate Linda Wang, before winning the playoff. Shee also helped lead the Red Storm to their first team title of the fall after they had lost a first-place tiebreaker at the Towson Invitational the previous week.
Men’s Notes – In addition to Kaitleen Shee’s accomplishments,
St. John’s also had a co-medalist on the men’s side. Gerald Mackedon carded a 1-over 71 at the four-team Red Storm Invitational, which was an 18-hole competition. St. John’s won the team title, defeating Manhattan, Hofstra and Iona…Four BIG EAST squads –
Butler,
Creighton,
Xavier and
DePaul -- competed at the Musketeer Classic. After Xavier’s Qureshi, Creighton’s Nate Vontz and DePaul’s Noah Kolar finished in a four-way tie for eighth place with a 2-over 215. Vontz sandwiched 74s with a second-round 67 to match his best score as a collegian. It was his sixth round of par or better this fall. Kolar, a freshman, posted the best round (70), best tournament score and best finish of his career. His 70 in the final round helped move him from 23rd to the tie for eighth. Butler’s Logan Sabins finished in a tie for 12th place after carding a 1-under 70 in the final round and finishing with a 216 (+3), one stroke behind the tie for eighth. He started the final day in tied for 28th. Among the BIG EAST teams, Butler finished fifth followed by Creighton (seventh), Xavier (11th) and DePaul (12th)…Georgetown registered a third-place finish at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at Powell’s Point, N.C. Eduardo Blochtein and David Rogers tied for ninth place with a 4-under 209. Rogers posted a 68 in the final round.
Women’s Notes –
Butler’s Ally Ross continued her strong fall season by tying for medalist honors at the rain-shortened Charles Braun, Jr. Intercollegiate in Evansville, Ind. Only one round was played. Ross carded a 3-over 75. The Bulldog team finished fourth in the 12-team field at 313 (+25)…
Seton Hall and
Georgetown competed in the Delaware Lady Blue Hen Invitational. The Pirates’ Lizzie Win and the Hoyas’ Ashley Fitzgibbons led their respective teams by tying for sixth place with a 6-over 222. Win carded rounds of 72, 76 and 74. It was her best performance of the season and her 15th top-10 finish. Fitzgibbons shot rounds of 73, 71 and 78. Her 71 was her best round of the fall. In the team standings, Seton Hall took second place at 893 (+29) and Georgetown was third at 899 (+35).
