BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Derek Dodson, Georgetown, Jr., F (Aurora, Ill.)
Georgetown junior forward Derek Dodson recorded five points in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, helping GU to a take over of the top of the league standings and a first-round bye in the upcoming BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship. Dodson scored the third goal against St. John’s in a top 10 showdown which resulted in a 3-0 victory. He also set up the second goal in the 24th minute, in a quick two-goal spurt in the middle of the first period. Dodson also scored the third goal in a 3-0 victory for the Hoyas over Marquette on Saturday.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Dylan Nealis, Georgetown, Sr., D (Massapequa, N.Y.)
Georgetown senior defender Dylan Nealis helped the Hoyas to back-to-back shutouts last week as he helped anchor a defense that held opponents to just seven shots on goal. In a 3-0 win over St. John’s on Wednesday, Nealis played all 90 minutes and helped hold the Red Storm to just seven total shots, four on goal. St. John’s had led the league in points (80) and goals (28). Nealis also scored against St. John’s, the second goal in the 24th minute.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Matthew Rosenberg, Xavier, RS-Jr., GK (Manalapan, N.J.)
Xavier keeper Matthew Rosenberg posted a 0.50 goals against average in 180 minutes of action last week. The redshirt junior made six saves and allowed just one goal to score in a 2-0 week that helped the Musketeers climb out of the bottom of the league standings and into the middle of the pack. Rosenberg ranked third in the league leaders last week in save percentage (.857) and goals against average but the highest of those who played two games.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Karsen Henderlong, Xavier, Fr., F (Crown Point, Ind.)
Xavier freshman forward Karsen Henderlong helped lead the BIG EAST to back-to-back wins last week as he scored the game-winning goal at DePaul on Oct. 26 in a 1-0 win for the Musketeers and added an assist in Xavier’s 2-1 win over Seton Hall on Oct. 23. Henderlong had three shots, all on goal, in 129 minutes of action last week. Henderlong has six goals on the season, ranking tied for third on the team.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Brandon Guhl, Butler, Sr,. F
Guhl scored two goals last week in a 1-1 week for Butler. He had one goal in the 3-2 loss to Marquette, but he scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 double overtime win against Villanova on Sunday. The win helped Butler hold on to the fourth place spot in the standings.
Yudai Tashiro, Creighton, Sr., M
Tashiro scored a pair of goals against Providence on Saturday for his first career multi-goal match as a Bluejay. Both goals were scored on free kicks from just outside the 18-yard box. Tashiro scored the game-tying goal in the 85th minute. CU lost in overtime.
Lukas Sunesson, Marquette, So., F
Sunesson tallied a season-high three points with an assist and the game-winning goal against Butler on Wednesday night to lead Marquette to a critical 3-2 BIG EAST victory.
Paulo Lima, Providence, So., M
Lima tallied five points in a 2-0 week as he tallied an assist and the insurance goal in the 60th minute to beat Villanova 2-0 on Oct. 23. On Saturday, Lima scored the golden goal in OT against Creighton to move the Friars to third place in the BIG EAST standings.
Tani Oluwaseyi, St. John’s, So., F/M
Oluwaseyi scored the lone goal for St. John’s in a 1-1 tie with Seton Hall on Saturday night. The goal was his ninth of the year, marking the first tie a St. John’s player has scored nine or more goals in a season since 2006.
