Preseason WNIT
No. 18/20 DePaul’s 24-point win over Drexel on Monday evening in the Preseason WNIT Second Round has set up the BIG EAST’s first top-25 showdown of the season. The Blue Demons advance to face No. 7/6 Oregon State in the semifinals on Thursday in Corvallis, Ore. Tipoff is slated for 10 p.m. ET. Reigning BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player Chante Stonewall has been stellar for DePaul in its first two contests, averaging 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and .704 shooting in victories over the Dragons and Miami (Ohio). The Beavers knocked off UC Irvine (86-57) and Pacific (69-57) in their first two Preseason WNIT contests. Week 1 Review
BIG EAST teams combined for a 12-3 opening week record, with -/RV Marquette leading the charge with its 3-0 mark. No. 18/20 DePaul and Seton Hall have also picked up multiple wins (2-0), while Xavier made a splash with a win over Pac-12 foe Utah in its debut under head coach Melanie Moore. Also of note, Providence head coach Jim Crowley picked up Division I win No. 300, while Creighton’s Jim Flanery picked up victory No. 328 – most among Bluejay basketball head coaches (men’s and women’s). Six different players posted 20+ point outings, including two for Selena Lott of the Golden Eagles. Six different players posted point-rebound double-doubles, while St. John’s Tiana England was the first to crack the 10-assist column with her 10 dimes at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday.

Creighton will face two teams receiving votes in the national polls this week, beginning Tuesday night in Omaha when the Bluejays welcome RV/RV South Dakota State at 8 p.m. ET. Creighton will travel to RV/RV Drake on Saturday as well. Seton Hall has its toughest test so far when the 2-0 Pirates host VCU tonight at 7 p.m. The Rams were the convincing favorite to win the A-10 this season, collecting 11 of 13 first-place votes in their coaches’ poll. Georgetown will also take on an A-10 foe on Tuesday night as the Hoyas host Richmond in their home opener at 7 p.m.
