Carrie Gross and A'riana Gray combined for 34 points and 16 rebounds on Thursday night as Xavier dropped a 78-65 road game at Temple. Gross matched her career high in scoring (12) and rebounding (7), while Gray came up just shy of a double-double with 22 points and nine boards. Tied after three quarters, Temple used a 31-point fourth quarter to pull away from Xavier (1-1). The Musketeers’ bench outscored Temple’s 34-17 as 10 different XU players scored in the contest.

American 76, Villanova 54
The host Eagles jumped out to a 23-5 first-quarter lead, setting the tone early as the Wildcats fell to 0-3 on the year. Villanova was limited to .323 shooting while American drained 51.9-percent of its attempts from the field. VU was led by Madison Siegrist, who made 9-of-20 shots en route to a team-best 22 points. She added eight rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench. Through three games, Siegrist is the BIG EAST’s top-scoring newcomer, averaging 16.7 points per game.

Northwestern 64, Marquette 56 (OT)
Marquette dropped its first game of the season to Northwestern on Wednesday night, falling 64-56 in overtime at the Al McGuire Center. The veteran backcourt combination of Isabelle Spingola and Lauren Van Kleunen scored 18 points apiece to lead the way for the Golden Eagles (3-1), who overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to send the game into overtime. Spingola netted 15 points in the second half on a scorching 5-of-7 performance from three-point range. She hit a season-high six threes on the night to supplement MU's offensive attack.

Sonjya Morris scored a career-high 29 points off 10-of-18 shooting but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Demons fell to the hot-shooting seventh-ranked Beavers in Thursday night’s Preseason WNIT Semifinals. Chante Stonewall got into foul trouble early with her third in the second quarter, but the senior finished with 16 points and eight boards. No. 18/20 DePaul had an uncharacteristic cold streak from deep, shooting 6-of-34 (.176) from beyond the arc, while the host Beavers were 34-of-61 (.557) overall and 12-of-27 (.444) from three on the night.
