Providence 76, Boston College 60
Providence improved to 3-0 on the season with a win in its home opener versus Boston College on Sunday afternoon. Three Friars cracked double-digit scoring as Kaela Webb led PC with 18 points, while Kyra Spiwak knotted a career-high 17 and Chanell Williams chipped in with 11. Webb added four steals in the victory as Earlette Scott and Olivia Orlando shared team-high honors with eight rebounds apiece. The Friars shot 54.7 percent from the field while converting on 50 percent of attempts from behind the arc. Sunday’s win marked Providence’s third straight victory over Boston College.
Seton Hall 55, Saint Joseph’s 39
Seton Hall (4-1) saw four players record double figures to push past Saint Joseph’s 55-39 at Fordham University on Sunday afternoon. Desiree Elmore led the way for the Pirates with 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Alexis Lewis tallied 12 points while freshmen Mya Jackson and Lauren Park-Lane added 10 apiece. The Hall held Saint Joseph’s to just 39 points on 32.7 percent shooting while not allowing the Hawks one three-point field goal (0-12).
Villanova 73, Fordham 66
Villanova (1-3) earned its first win of the season with a 73-66 road win at Fordham on Sunday. Freshman Maddy Siegrist led the way for the Wildcats with 15 points in the opening frame, and 29 in the contest shooting 81.2 percent from the field. Senior Mary Gedaka went 11-of-16 from the field and poured in 27 points for VU. The Wildcats controlled the lane with a 44-20 points in the paint advantage. With the win, VU leads the all-time series with Fordham 6-0.
Butler 73, Eastern Kentucky 41
Butler remained undefeated (3-0) on the season with a resounding 73-41 victory over visiting Eastern Kentucky on Sunday night. The Bulldogs never trailed in the first meeting between the two programs. Butler’s stout defense was the story as the Bulldogs allowed just nine first-half points on just three made field goals. Kristen Spolyar led all players with 19 points while Oumou Toure came off the bench to contribute nine points, nine rebounds a team-high four blocks. Butler forced 27 turnovers on 17 steals which resulted in 22 points.
James Madison 76, St. John’s 73
St. John’s dropped its first contest of the season on Sunday afternoon with a narrow 76-73 defeat at James Madison. Qadashah Hoppie finished with a team-high 22 points converting on five of seven three-point attempts. Unique Drake went 4-for-4 from the field to chip in 11 points, while Alissa Alston and Leilani Correa joined Hoppie and Drake in double-figures, logging 10 points apiece for the Red Storm. The Johnnies (2-1) forced 20 turnovers for the second-straight contest, turning those miscues into 23 points.
