Seton Hall 95, Sacred Heart 69
Desiree Elmore had a team-high 20 points and BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year Shadeen Samuels tallied a double-double as Seton Hall routed an undermanned Sacred Heart team, 95-69, to open the 2019-20 regular season on Wednesday. Elmore poured in 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field and made seven of her eight foul shots. She also pulled down nine rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked three shots. Samuels had a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Seton Hall won its ninth straight season-opener, which includes a perfect 7-0 record in openers for head coach Anthony Bozzella at Seton Hall.

George Washington 68, Villanova 56
GWU came out hot and led wire-to-wire to deal Villanova a season-opening loss at Finneran Pavilion. The Wildcats were hamstrung by an uncharacteristic 12 first-half turnovers which the Colonials converted into 12 points. GWU opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run to build an insurmountable lead. Redshirt-freshman Maddy Siegrist scored a Villanova-high 14 points, while Bridget and Brianna Herlihy each had 12 for the Wildcats.

A night of new faces is on deck for Thursday as BIG EAST first-year head coaches Melanie Moore of Xavier and Megan Duffy of Marquette take the court. Duffy is coming off a win in her debut against Morgan State on Tuesday, while the Musketeers’ tilt against Utah tonight will be the first for Moore. Xavier-Utah is slated for a 7 p.m. ET start at the Cintas Center, while Marquette-St. Francis (N.Y.) follows at 8 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
