BIG EAST teams cap off busy week with 5-2 record on Sunday.

NEW YORK – A busy Sunday for BIG EAST teams saw seven squads take the court, combining for a 5-2 mark. RV/RV Creighton, -/RV Marquette and Providence all picked up their seventh wins of the season, while Seton Hall claimed its sixth victory in emphatic fashion. Butler also scored win No. 6, improving to 5-0 at Hinkle Fieldhouse this season. A light midweek schedule sees just four games on the BIG EAST calendar before Saturday, including one on Monday when St. John’s hosts Army West Point at 7 p.m. ET.
 
Seton Hall 89, Iona 37 
Desiree Elmore and Shadeen Samuels combined for 32 points as Seton Hall (6-4) ran away with a victory over Iona, 89-37, on Sunday. Seton Hall's 52-point victory ties for the fourth-largest margin of victory in program history, and gets the Pirates back in the win column after a hard-fought loss to No. 4 Connecticut on Thursday. Elmore had a double-double and led all players with 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.  Samuels, making her first start since Nov. 15, added 15 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Providence 58, Rhode Island 51 
Providence (7-1) claimed their first Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament championship after defeating Rhode Island, 58-51, in Smithfield, R.I. on Sunday. Mary Baskerville earned Most Valuable Player honors and Earlette Scott was named to the All-Tournament Team. It was a career day for Scott and Olivia Orlando as Scott had career highs in points (18), field goals made (eight) and minutes played (31). Orlando owned the glass, with a career-high 14 rebounds. Baskerville finished with 15 points and five boards in just 16 minutes of action.

-/RV Marquette 78, Milwaukee 56 
Jordan King scored a career-high 18 points as Marquette (7-2) took its 19th victory in its last 20 games against the Panthers.  Selena Lott reached double figures for the seventh time in eight tries this year, scoring 14 points and distributing a game-high five assists. MU led by as many as 23 points in the second half, but a 24-13 run by the Panthers from the end of the third quarter into the fourth brought the game to within 12 points at 65-53. The Golden Eagles were able to keep UWM from getting any closer as they went on a 13-5 run in the final 3:42 of the game to win by 22. For the game, MU shot a season-best 50.8 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from 3-point range in the victory.

RV/RV Creighton 57, Northern Iowa 54 
A furious final four minutes saw Creighton overcome a nine-point deficit with a 12-0 run to secure a 57-54 win over Northern Iowa on Sunday. The Bluejays (7-2) trailed 54-45 with 3:07 remaining before the 12-0 spurt, including four points apiece by Rachael Saunders and Temi Carda. The Panthers went 0-4 and committed three turnovers during that decisive stretch. Jaylyn Agnew matched the game high with 16 points while adding seven rebounds. In her first career start, Saunders finished with her first career double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Butler 76, Akron 55 
Butler (6-2) picked up a 76-55 win over Akron on Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Kristen Spolyar filled up the box score with 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.  Spolyar got to the rim often against the Zips and would score nine of her team-high 17 points from the free throw line. Genesis Parker tied Spolyar for the team lead in scoring with 17 of her own. Parker was a sharpshooter in Butler's sixth win of the season, making five of her six field goals from 3-point range.

Eastern Kentucky 56, Xavier 55 
A'riana Gray came up just shy of her second double-double of the year on Sunday afternoon, posting nine points and a season-high 17 rebounds as the Musketeers (1-7) dropped a 56-55 contest to Eastern Kentucky. Xavier led by as many as 21 points late in the first half, but Eastern Kentucky engineered a fourth-quarter comeback to upset the Musketeers. The Colonels outscored Xavier, 27-11, in the final stanza on 9-for-12 shooting with six 3-pointers.

Fordham 67, Georgetown 54 
Georgetown lost 67-54 to the Fordham Rams Sunday afternoon at the Rose Hill Gymnasium.  The game ended a five-game road swing that included games on both coasts.  With the loss, Georgetown falls to 2-7 on the season. Taylor Barnes led the Blue & Gray with 13 points as well as pulling down six rebounds. The Hoyas shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the field and allowed Fordham 40.4 percent (23-57) shooting.
