DePaul's Strus, Georgetown's LeBlanc Take #BIGEASTmbb Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – DePaul guard Max Strus has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown forward Josh LeBlanc has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Strus has won the honor three times this season. LeBlanc has been honored twice.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Max Strus, DePaul, G, Sr. – Strus scored a career-high 43 points – the second highest scoring total in a BIG EAST game this season and tied for the fifth highest total in league history – to carry the Blue Demons to a 92-83 victory over St. John’s. He scored 36 of his points in the second half. Strus also had 25 points in an 82-73 defeat at Georgetown. For the two games, the senior averaged 34.0 points and shot 64.9 percent (24-37) from the field and 47.1 percent (8-17) from 3-point range.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Josh LeBlanc, Georgetown, F, Fr. – LeBlanc averaged a double-double with 11.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas. Had 14 points and a collegiate-high 17 rebounds in a 77-71 double-overtime win against Seton Hall. He also eight points and seven boards in an 82-73 win over DePaul. For the season, he is averaging 9.4 points and 7.6 rebounds. His rebound leads all league freshmen.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Martin Krampelj, Creighton, F, Jr.
Had 19 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in a 66-60 win at No. 10 Marquette in his only game of the week.
Jessie Govan, Georgetown, C, Sr.
Averaged 23.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Had 21 points and 11 boards in a double-overtime win over Seton Hall (77-71). Scored all of his team’s 11 points in the second OT.
Myles Powell, Seton Hall, G, Jr.
Had a game-high 35 points in a double-overtime loss at Georgetown (77-71) in his only game of the week.
Jermaine Samuels, Villanova, F, So.
Scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a win against Marquette (67-61). Added seven points and 10 boards in a victory over Butler (75-54).
Naji Marshall, Xavier, F, So.
Notched a career-high 31 points, six rebounds and three steals in an 84-73 win at St. John’s in his only game of the week.
