NEW YORK – Ten more matches were played over the weekend after Thursday’s busy opening night, with the weekend’s contests highlighted by Creighton earning a season-opening win over Kansas State, Xavier knocking off another conference champion, Butler scoring four in a victory and Villanova remaining unbeaten with a Sunday draw. For this week, the calendar remains quiet until a top-25 showdown between Georgetown and Duke kicks off at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, while seven teams take the pitch on Thursday, including a rivalry game between Marquette and nationally ranked Wisconsin.
RV Butler 4, IUPUI 1
The Bulldogs improved to 2-0-0 on the season, scoring two goals per half to knock off visiting IUPUI on Sunday. Katie Soderstrom had two goals and two assists on the night as Butler outshot the Jaguars 20-5. Butler has not dropped a contest in the Sellick Bowl since October of 2016.

Creighton 3, Kansas State 2
Down 2-0 early, Creighton rallied for three straight goals to best Kansas State in the 2019 season opener on Friday. Preseason All-BIG EAST Team member Taryn Jakubowski converted a penalty kick just before halftime to get the Bluejays on the board, before Skylar Heinrich provided the equalizer early in the second half. Keelie Fothergill scored the go-ahead goal in the 63
rd minute. Katie Sullivan made five saves in the win and Creighton outshot the Wildcats 19-14.

Xavier 2, Bowling Green 1
Xavier struck first, with Gabrielle LoPresti scoring midway through the first half to give the Musketeers the 1-0 lead. The Falcons responded immediately, scoring less than a minute later in a 1-1 draw that held into halftime. Less than 10 minutes in to the second half, a long throw by goalkeeper Olivia Jenkins helped the Musketeers get behind the BGSU defense, with freshman Jackie Richards finishing with the game-winning goal. LoPresti collected three points on the day, picking up her first goal as a Musketeer in the first half, and assisting on Richards' game-winner in the second. BGSU won the MAC Tournament a season ago, while Xavier also bested Ohio Valley champion Murray State on Thursday.

Saint Joseph's 1, Villanova 1 (2OT)
Despite a surge of late game pressure and a Kristin Barbour goal to even the game, Villanova couldn't find the game-winner as it posted a 1-1 double overtime draw against Saint Joseph's. The tie marks the first since the 2014 season. With the tie, Villanova moves to 1-0-1 overall after the opening weekend. The Wildcats dominated once again on the offensive front with a 17-7 advantage in shots and 9-4 in corners after 110 minutes.

#21 NC State 3, #7 Georgetown 1
The Hoyas (1-1-0) took the 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Wolfpack came back with three-straight goals to come out on top. The Blue & Gray outshot NC State 11-10 and took seven corner kicks to the Wolfpack's five. Paula Germino-Watnick led the squad by taking five shots. Amanda Carolan scored the first goal in the 34th minute to give GU the 1-0 lead. Carolan found her opportunity on a deflection of the ball inside the box to score her second goal in two games. NC State converted a PK shortly after before taking the lead in the 51
st. They added an insurance score in the 71
st.

RV SMU 2, DePaul 1
DePaul overcame an early 1-0 deficit to tie the game late in the 78th minute, but could not escape a last minute goal from SMU for a final 2-1 score on Sunday at Wish Field. The Mustangs struck early in the fifth minute with a successful free kick attempt by Celiana Torres from just outside the box. DePaul (0-2-0) battled and found their answer and the equalizer from freshman Kristin Boos, who tallied her first collegiate goal. Boos also led the Blue Demons in shots on goal with three. In the final minute, Jessica Cooley would find Hannah Allred streaming up the right side of the field for the game-winner with just about 50 seconds left in the game to seal the deal for SMU.

Massachusetts 1, Providence 0
UMass scored an early goal in the 10
th minute and held the Friars scoreless for the remainder of the match. Providence falls to 1-1-0 to open the season on home turf. Providence earned a penalty kick late in the match but Christina Rodgers failed to convert after trying to slot the ball in the bottom right corner. Goalkeeper Peyton Ryan made a diving stop. Hannah McNulty led the Providence offense for the second-consecutive game, this time with four shots and two on net.

James Madison 2, St. John's 1 (2OT)
The Dukes scored with 32 seconds remaining on the clock to record a 2-1 double-OT victory at Sentara Park on Sunday afternoon. Zsani Kajan, the Red Storm's leading scorer last season, found the back of the net for the first time this year in the 54th minute. Jessica Garziano, the freshman from Melville, N.Y., picked up an assist on the play, for the first of her career. Naya Lipkens put forth a solid effort between the pipes for St. John's making eight saves.

Marquette team out-shot Ball State, 11-6, on Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 loss at the Briner Sports Complex in Muncie, Indiana. Sam Kambol scored in the 72nd minute as the Cardinals (2-0) pushed their unbeaten streak to 13 matches and improved to 39-5 at home over the last five campaigns. Maddy Henry, who became MU's all-time saves leader on Thursday at Colorado State, notched a pair on the day, but could not stop Kambol's shot as she came out to play a deep ball from BSU defender Yela Ziswiler.
