BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Stephen Elias, Seton Hall, Grad., F (Rye, N.Y.)
Seton Hall grad student Stephen Elias scored a hat trick in the only shots he took in the Pirates’ season-opening, 6-0 victory over Central Connecticut State on Friday. He scored all three within the match’s first 59 minutes, including the game-winner only 15 minutes in, and scored goals two and three only eight minutes apart.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Luke Hansen, St. John’s, So., D (West Windsor, N.J.)
St. John’s sophomore Luke Hansen anchored the Red Storm back line in two shutout efforts, including a double overtime, 1-0, win against N.C. State on Sunday, a team receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll. The Wolfpack only fired off seven shots on the Red Storm net. Hansen and the St. John’s defense held both N.C. State and Appalachian State to just four total shots on goal. St. John’s defeated Appalachian State, 2-0, in the season-opener.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Matthew Rosenberg, Xavier, RS-Jr., Goalie (Manalapan, N.J.)
Xavier redshirt junior keeper Matthew Rosenberg posted a shutout with six saves for a season-opening win over No. 3 Akron for his first start in a Musketeer kit. Rosenberg helped Xavier move to 8-2-2 against top-10 teams under head coach Andy Fleming.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jackson Weyman, Marquette, RS-Fr., Goalie (Evanston, Ill.)
Marquette freshman goalie Jackson Weyman had a 1-0-1 opening weekend in his first action in a Golden Eagle uniform. Weyman made six saves in back-to-back double overtime contests. He allowed just one goal for a 0.42 goals against average. His save percentage for the weekend was .857.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Wilmer Cabrera, Jr., Butler, Fr., F
Scored the game-winning goal for Butler off a penalty kick in the 85th minute against Western Michigan on Friday. The Bulldogs won 2-1.
Younes Boudadi, Creighton, Sr., D
Boudadi moved to center back and played all 200 minutes in a 2-2 draw against No. 6 North Carolina and a 1-0 loss to No. 4 Wake Forest. Boudadi helped limit Creighton opponents to just 13 shots on goal.
Dante Polvara, Georgetown, Fr., M
Polvara took two shots and scored the insurance goal in the 75th minute in a 3-1 win for No. 13 Georgetown against Syracuse on Friday. Playing midfield, he helped keep Syracuse shots on goal limited to five, 13 total.
Joao Serrano, Providence, RS-Sr., D/M
Serrano helped hold UMass-Lowell to just three shots on goal, seven total shots, in a 4-0 season-opening win for the Friars. Serrano also scored an insurance goal in the 26th minute, unassisted.
Conor Bradley, Villanova, Sr., D
Bradley moved to more of an attacking role this season after playing previously at the defensive midfield. The move proved fruitful as he scored the first goal of the season for the Wildcats then later assisted on Villanova’s third goal, scored in the 52nd minute of play. VU defeated Delaware 5-0.
