#BIGEASTtrack Weekly Honors Shared By Four Programs
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jack Carleo, Providence, Grad, Distance (Newburyport, Mass.)
Providence’s Jack Carleo took first in the 800-meter at the Boston University Multi-Team meet with a time of 1:52.20. Carleo’s performance places him in first in the BIG EAST and ranks 27th in the NCAA.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Joe Keys, Marquette, Jr., Pole Vault (Downers Grove, Ill.)
Marquette junior Joe Keys took first place in the pole vault at the John Tierney Classic last weekend while setting a personal best. Keys mark of 4.73 m/15-6.25 ft places him at No. 6 all-time in the Marquette record books.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Leah Anderson, St. John’s, Jr., Sprints (Mount Vernon, N.Y.)
St. John’s sprinter Leah Anderson won the 60-meter dash at the Penn 8-Team Select last weekend with a time of 7.56. Anderson’s mark comes in as a top-ten ECAC qualifying time and moves her into first place in the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jade Gates, DePaul, Jr., Throws (St. Louis, Mo.)
DePaul junior Jade Gates measured a program-record 18.92 meters in the women’s weight throw at the GVSU Bill Clinger Classic. Gates’ second throw of the season put her atop the conference standings by over 1.5 meters. Last weekend’s throw marks Gates’ first indoor program record, as the St. Louis, Mo., native currently holds the DePaul hammer throw title.
Notable Performances
- Marquette’s Samuel Johnson set a school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.80 to win the event at the John Tierney Classic on Saturday. The junior also won the long jump and triple jump en route to helping Marquette to a dual meet victory over Milwaukee.
- Maria Coffin of Providence won the 3000-meter at the Boston University Multi-Team Meet setting a personal best with a time of 9:51.42. With her performance, Coffin qualified for the ECAC Championship.
- Villanova’s Ashley Preston took over the outright BIG EAST lead in the pole vault with a jump of 4.00 meters at the Wesley Invitational. With last weekend’s performance, Preston moved into No. 3 on the Villanova indoor performance list in the pole vault.
- Wildcat Richie Bush opened his indoor season at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational with a 22.05 personal best in the 200-meter to take over the BIG EAST lead in the event.
