Providence’s Duke, Georgetown’s Harris Take Weekly MBB Honors

NEW YORK – Providence guard David Duke has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown guard Dante Harris has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Duke helped the Friars win at TCU in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle and Harris sparked the Hoyas to an overtime win versus St. John’s.
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week
David Duke, Providence, G, Jr. – Duke led the Friars to a 79-70 road win over TCU in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle with a game-high 28 points, which included five 3-point baskets.  The junior also dealt seven assists and made two steals.  For the season, Duke ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 19.7 average.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Dante Harris, Georgetown, G, Fr. – Making the first start of his collegiate career, Harris scored a team-high 22 points and made three steals in a 97-94 overtime victory over St. John’s.  Harris made 8-of-9 free throws while playing in a game-high 43 minutes.  He averaged 12.0 points in a 2-1 week for the Hoyas.
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Denzel Mahoney, Creighton, G-F, Sr. – Averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 1-1 week.  Had a team-high 19 points in a loss at No. 5 Kansas (73-72).
 
Jamorko Pickett, Georgetown, F, Sr. – Averaged 14.0 points and 10.7 rebounds in a 2-1 week while shooting 62.1 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from 3-point range.  Posted two double-doubles.
 
Sandro Mamukelashvili, Seton Hall, F, Sr. – Scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a win against St. John’s (77-68).  Averaged 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week.
 
Collin Gillespie, Villanova, G, Sr. – In a come-from-behind victory at Georgetown (76-63), posted 18 points, six assists and four rebounds.
 
Zach Freemantle, Xavier, F, So. – In a victory over Oklahoma (99-77) in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, scored a career-high 28 points on 12-of-14 shooting.  Added five rebounds and three assists.
