DePaul, Marquette, Villanova Earn #BIGEASTtrack Weekly Accolades
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Anthony Brodie, Villanova, Fr., Sprints (Bronx, N.Y.)
Villanova freshman sprinter Anthony Brodie recorded season bests in both the 200-meter dash (21.73) and the 400-meter dash (48.22) at the Sykes and Sabock Challenge. His time leads all BIG EAST competitors in the 200-meter event and is third on the BIG EAST list in the 400-meter list. His 200-meter time moved him up to No. 6 in Villanova’s all-time 200-meter list.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Joe Keys, Marquette, Jr., Multis (Downers Grove, Ill.)
Marquette junior Joe Keys had an impressive showing at the Windy City Rumble this weekend as he won the Heptathlon with a score of 5,667 points. Keys score ranks seventh nationally in the multi event Keys won six of the seven elements of the Heptathlon, the 1,000m (2:45.80), 60m (7.10), long jump (7.32m), shot put (12.71m), 60m hurdles (8.32) and pole vault (4.60m). His mark in the long jump also leads the BIG EAST leader list so far this season.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Trudy-Ann Williamson, Villanova, Sr., Sprints (Kingston, Jamaica)
Villanova senior Trudy-Ann Williamson was the lone collegiate entry in the field of eight runners at the 60-meter dash at the Millrose Games over the weekend. Her competition field consisted of Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix and World U20 gold medalist Briana Williams. Not to be intimidated, Williamson matched her own school record and lifetime PR with a time of 7.37, leading the BIG EAST this season and ranking 37th nationally.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jade Gates, DePaul, So., Throws (St. Louis, Mo.)
DePaul sophomore Jade Gates leads the BIG EAST weight throw leaderboard after a 20.19 meter performance at the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 7. Gates’ throw ranks 32nd nationally. Gates finished sixth overall in the event.
It is the second weekly honor for both Keys and Gates.
Notable Performances
- Butler’s Lily Hess set the Bulldog record in the 200-meters (24.82) at the Meyo Invite. She also set a PR in the 400-meters and competed in the 4x400-meter relay which finished with the second fastest time in school history, 3:55.48.
- DePaul’s Kyle Mastrangeli’s qualifying time in the Meyo Invite’s 60-meter dash leads the BIG EAST this season at 6.79. He finished third in the finals at 6.80.
- Marquette’s Mady Marko set a PR in the pentathlon at the Windy City Rumble with a score of 3,506 points. Her score leads the BIG EAST. Her finish in the long jump also leads the BIG EAST at 5.78 meters.
- The St. John’s 4x400-meter relay team won first place at the NYRR Millrose Games with a time of 3:42.63. The time leads the BIG EAST and is 67th nationally. Leah Anderson ran the anchor leg with Brianna Burkley, Avon Samuels and Skyy Diop on the squad.
