Siegrist, Bueckers Claim #BIGEASTwbb Weekly Awards

Villanova’s Maddy Siegirst was the No. 1 scorer and No. 2 rebounder in the BIG EAST last week; Paige Bueckers filled the stat sheet for UConn.

Maddy Siegrist, Villanova, So., F
Siegrist claims her fourth BIG EAST Player of the Week certificate of the season after leading the BIG EAST in scoring (27.0 ppg) and ranking second in rebounding (9.0 rpg) in a 1-1 week for the Wildcats. Siegrist reached the 30-point threshold for the league-leading third time this season with a game-high 31 points along with nine rebounds, a game-high four blocks and five assists in Monday’s setback at No. 20 DePaul. She followed that with 23 points, nine boards, three assists and two steals in Wednesday’s win at Seton Hall. Siegrist shot .525 on the week, including 40 percent from three.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week
Paige Bueckers, Connecticut, Fr., G
In the third-ranked Huskies’ lone game of the week, Bueckers had game highs in points (23), assists (5), steals (3) and shooting percentage (.800) in Saturday’s win over Providence. Bueckers was 8-for-10 from the field, 2-of-4 from three, and added four rebounds and two blocks. She was also 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. This is her fourth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor in the last five weeks.

Aubrey Griffin, Connecticut, So., F
Griffin came off the bench to score a season-high 18 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in 25 minutes of action in Saturday’s win over Providence. She added a game-high three blocks and two steals while shooting 7-of-13 from the field.
Sonya Morris, DePaul, Jr., G
In the Blue Demons’ lone game of the week, Morris scored a team-high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three, to go along with five rebounds and a team-high five assists in a win over Villanova.
Chanell Williams, Providence, Sr., G
Williams averaged a team-high 11.0 points and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Friars. She sparked PC to the win over Butler on Thursday with a game-high 16 points along with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, giving Providence the season sweep over the Bulldogs.
Leilani Correa, St. John’s, So., G
Correa claimed her second double-double in as many games with game highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds along with a game-best four assists in Saturday’s win over Butler. Correa was 8-of-17 from the field.
Lauren Park-Lane, Seton Hall, So., G
Park-Lane had a game-high 27 points on 7-of-14 shooting, adding three assists and two rebounds in The Hall’s setback to Villanova on Wednesday.
