BIG EAST teams combine for 4-2 record on opening night, with RV/RV DePaul, -/RV Seton Hall, Georgetown and Marquette earning wins.

RV/RV DePaul 114, Texas Southern 71 
Aneesah Morrow made a splash in her collegiate debut, dropping a game-high 31 points to lead DePaul past visiting Texas Southern Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena. Morrow shot 13-of-16 from the field, making her lone attempt from deep, while grabbing nine boards and collecting four steals. She led four Blue Demons in double figures, including Deja Church who added 21. DePaul shot a school-record .676 for the game and .583 from three. Morrow became the first player in head coach Doug Bruno's 36-year career to score 31 points in her freshman debut.

-/RV Seton Hall 81, Mount St. Mary's 68 
Lauren Park-Lane and Andra Espinoza-Hunter combined for 45 points as Seton Hall opened the season at home with an 81-68 victory over Mount St. Mary's. After a mostly even start, the Pirates had a game-changing 15-0 run in the second quarter. Park-Lane had only three points after one quarter, but broke out in the next three, finishing with a game-high 24 points to go with four assists, four steals and three rebounds.  Espinoza-Hunter had 21 points and four rebounds. The Pirates forced 26 turnovers which they turned into 30 points. Seton Hall opened the season with a victory for the 11th consecutive year, which includes all nine openers during the Anthony Bozzella era.

Georgetown 73, Navy 62 
Milan Bolden-Morris scored a career-high 22 points, leading four Hoyas in double figures as Georgetown won at Navy Tuesday night. GU dominated the paint, outrebounding the Mids 51-27 while scoring 16 second-chance points to Navy’s one. Georgetown outscored Navy 21-12 in the fourth to turn a two-point lead into a double-digit win. Graceann Bennett also recorded a career best with 18 points and nine boards. The Hoyas shot 44 percent (28-64) and allowed just 37 percent (20-54) shooting by the Mids.

Marquette 96, Alcorn 35 
Graduate transfer Karissa McLaughlin led the Golden Eagles with 21 points in 23 minutes, while Lauren Van Kleunen added 17 and Kennedi Myles had 14 points. Marquette mounted an 18-0 run in the opening quarter while holding the Braves scoreless for over eight minutes. Marquette shot 55.4% from the floor (36-of-65) in the victory, including a scorching 69.7% in the second half. MU also outscored the Braves, 50-6, in the paint and held a 52-19 rebounding edge. The Golden Eagles scored their most points in a season opener since a 108-64 win over Stetson on Nov. 22, 1991.

Yale 63, Providence 57 OT
Ocean State native Janai Crooms scored a game-high 18 points in her Friar debut, including a baseline jumper as the clock expired in regulation to send the game into overtime. Crooms also contributed seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Mary Baskerville finished with 11 points and nine boards. Yale drained a three-pointer 27 seconds into the OT period and never looked back, maintaining an advantage the rest of the way.

Memphis 84, Xavier 64 
Nia Clark led three Musketeers in double figures with a game-high 16 points, her ninth career game with 10 or more points. The guard was 7-for-13 from the floor. Aanaya Harris scored 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting in her collegiate debut. She added three rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes of action off the bench. Xavier finished the game with a .400 field-goal percentage (27-for-68), while the Tigers hit 45 percent (30-for-63) of their shot attempts. The Tigers also took 14 more free throws (23-9) than Xavier.

Four more teams lift the lid on their 2021-22 seasons on Wednesday, with all four games set for 7 p.m. ET tips. A trio of games will stream on FloSports as St. John’s hosts Fairleigh Dickinson, Villanova welcomes Princeton and No. 8/7 Indiana visits Butler. Creighton will begin the season on the road, traveling to Drake in a game streaming on ESPN+.
