St. John's 89, Fairleigh Dickinson 68
Behind a career-high 24 points from Rayven Peeples, St. John's rolled past Fairleigh Dickinson, 89-68, Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena. Peeples converted on 10-of-16 attempts from the floor. Leilani Correa also eclipsed the 20-point plateau, pouring in 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, including a 3-of-5 mark from three-point range. The Manchester, N.J., native has now finished with 20 or more points in six of her last 12 games dating back to last season. The Red Storm shot .536 from the field and won the rebounding battle 39-35.

Princeton 59, Villanova 42
Villanova struggled from the field, shooting just .263 on the night in Wednesday’s season-opening setback to the Tigers. Neither team scored for the first 3:30 of the game, and Villanova led 16-10 after one. The Wildcats were held to four second-quarter points as Princeton built a double-digit lead. Nova clawed back, getting within seven midway through the third, but a 16-4 Princeton run allowed the Tigers to pull away. Brianna Herlihy posted a team-best 12 points while Maddy Siegrist added 10 points and nine boards.

Drake 82, Creighton 79
Rallying from a 17-point deficit to tie the game with 27 seconds to go, the Bluejays lost a heartbreaker as Drake buried a go-ahead three with two seconds left. Three Creighton players finished in double figures, with Morgan Maly tallying a team-best 15 points. The Bluejays shot .403 on the night, drained 14 three-pointers and committed just 10 turnovers.

#8/7 Indiana 86, Butler 63
The Bulldogs shot 50-percent from the field but it wasn’t enough to top the nation’s eighth-ranked squad in Wednesday’s season opener. Alex Richard finished with 20 points off 10-of-13 shooting in her Butler debut, while Zoe Jackson dropped 18 off 7-of-10 shooting in her first game as a Bulldog. Butler was within nine midway through the third quarter, but 52-pecent shooting by the Hoosiers helped them pull away late.
