MBB Minute – Seton Hall, Creighton Grab Road Victories in Gavitt Tipoff Games on 4-0 Tuesday

Seton Hall won at Michigan and Creighton beat Nebraska on the road in the Gavitt Tipoff Games on a 4-0 night for BIG EAST teams.
 
The Seton Hall win came against the No. 4 ranked Wolverines, the Pirates’ highest ranked road win since 2000. The Hall (3-0) overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half and made crucial free throws in the final 1:15. Jared Rhoden scored a team-high 16 points and the Pirates got 37 of their 65 points from their bench, including 13 each from Bryce Aiken and Tray Jackson.
 
Creighton posted its 10th win in the last 11 meetings against Nebraska, winning 77-69. The Bluejays (3-0) used an early 13-0 run to take control of the contest. Freshman Ryan Nembhard finished with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists. He is averaging a team-leading 16.0 points, 5.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds. Ryan Hawkins added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Georgetown gained its first win of the season, defeating American 79-57. Freshman Aminu Mohammed led the Hoyas (1-1) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Dante Harris added 13 points. Georgetown put together a 24-2 run in the second half to secure the victory.
 
Villanova (2-1) got double-figure scoring efforts from six players in its 100-81 win against Howard. Brandon Slater scored a career-high 23 points and Collin Gillespie added 21 points.   
 
The Gavitt Tipoff Games continue Wednesday from the state of Indiana on FS1. At 7 p.m. ET, Butler hosts Michigan State. At 9 p.m. St. John’s plays at Indiana. Butler and Michigan State last met in the 2010 Final Four when Butler won 52-50 in the national semifinals. St. John’s and Indiana rank ninth and 10th respectively on the all-time NCAA victories list. St. John’s has 1,889 wins and Indiana has 1,871.
 
No. 23 Connecticut hosts Long Island U. on FS2 at 6:30 p.m. The Huskies (2-0) have been led by Adama Sanogo, who is averaging 20.0 points and shooting 79.2 percent from the field.
 
BIG EAST teams own a collective 26-2 record going into Wednesday’s schedule.
