NEW YORK – The field for the 2021 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship has been set after regular season play concluded on Sunday afternoon. No. 2 seed Marquette will take on No. 3 seed UConn in the first semifinal on Friday, Nov. 26 at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. local. The second semifinal will feature No. 1 seed Creighton up against No. 4 seed DePaul beginning at 4 p.m ET/3 p.m. local. Al McGuire Center at Marquette will serve as the host of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship for the fourth time.
The two semifinal matches will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi on FloSports. The championship final will be played on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. local time on FS2. Bob Brainerd and Michelle Griffin-Wenzel will call the action from Milwaukee.
Entering the weekend, all four teams in the field had been decided, with DePaul being the only team knowing its final position in the standings. UConn was locked into the No. 3 seed after a loss to Butler on Thursday. Marquette earned a share of the BIG EAST regular season title with a win over Villanova on Saturday, while Creighton's win over St. John's on Sunday gave the Bluejays a share of the title as well.
The Bluejays earned the top seed by virtue of their 2-0 head-to-head record against the Golden Eagles. This is the eighth consecutive BIG EAST regular season title for the Bluejays, extending their BIG EAST record. Marquette won 16 games in BIG EAST play this season, matching the program best mark set in 2019.
UConn returns to the BIG EAST Tournament for the second straight season after qualifying last season as a COVID replacement team. UConn seeks its first win in the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship since 1999. DePaul earns the No. 4 seed and will be making its first appearance in the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship in program history. The Blue Demons' 19 wins are their most in a season since 2001, and the team finished above .500 overall for just the second time since joining the BIG EAST in 2005.
