MBB Minute – Providence, Creighton Post Neutral Court Wins on Monday

Providence improved to 5-0 and Creighton won at the buzzer on a Monday when four league teams were in action on neutral floors.
 
The Friars defeated Northwestern 77-72 in the Legends Classic played at Prudential Center. Nate Watson continued to be the team scoring leader, finishing with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting. He leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, making 72.4 percent. Guard Jared Bynum added 15 points. PC made 14-of-29 from 3-point range. The win was the 1,500th in school history. The Friars meet Virginia tonight for the Legends Classic title at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
 
The Bluejays (5-1) closed the game on a 12-2 run and edged Southern Illinois 66-63 in the third-place game of the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Ryan Nembhard’s floater at the buzzer won the game. Ryan Kalkbrenner had 14 points and five blocked shots. Ryan Hawkins added 13 points. Nembhard made the All-Tournament Team.
 
Seton Hall, which broke into the AP poll earlier in the day at No. 21, lost 79-76 on a 28-foot 3-pointer in the final seconds at the Fort Myers Tip-Off. Jared Rhoden poured in a career-high 29 points. Bryce Aiken added 16 points. The Pirates were only 5-of-23 from 3-point range. They meet California on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on FS1 in the third-place game.
 
Butler got into a hole early against No. 12 Houston in the first round of the Maui Classic and absorbed a 70-52 defeat. Jair Bolden led the Bulldogs with 16 points. In his first Butler start, Ty Groce finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Butler meets Texas A&M in a second-round game at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
 
St. John’s hosts St. Francis, N.Y., in Carnesecca Arena at 7 p.m. on FS2. The Johnnies (3-1) are 3-0 at home, while averaging 99.0 points with an average margin of victory of 30.7 points. Julian Champagnie ranks second in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 22.8 average.
