NEW YORK – Connecticut’s Adama Sanogo has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Creighton guard Ryan Nembhard has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Sanogo earned all-tournament honors at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Nembhard has earned freshman accolades for the third straight week after helping the Bluejays to a pair of wins.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Adama Sanogo, Connecticut, F, So. – Sanogo made the Battle 4 Atlantis All-Tournament Team after averaging 18.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks and helping the Huskies to a third-place finish. He posted 30 points, six rebounds and two blocks in a double OT win over No. 19 Auburn (115-109) and 18 points, 10 boards and six blocks in a loss to Michigan State (64-60).
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ryan Nembhard, Creighton, G, Fr. – Nembhard earns freshman honors for a third straight week. The freshman’s basket at the buzzer beat Southern Illinois 66-64 in the third-place game at the Paradise Jam. He also helped the Bluejays with a 16-point comeback in a 70-65 win against SIU-Edwardsville with nine points, five assists and four rebounds. He averaged 10.5 points, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals in the 2-0 week.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Javon Freeman-Liberty, DePaul, G, Sr. – Averaged 21.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in wins over Northern Kentucky (77-68) and Eastern Michigan (101-63).
Noah Horchler, Providence, F, Gr. – In a 2-1 week, averaged 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds. Shot 7-of-11 from 3-point-range and 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Named to Legends Classic All-Tournament Team.
Julian Champagnie, St. John’s, G-F, Jr. – In a 2-0 week, averaged 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds. Had 23 points, six rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals in a win over St. Francis Brooklyn (76-70).
Jared Rhoden, Seton Hall, G, Sr. – Averaged 22.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in a 2-1 week. Made Fort Myers Tipoff All-Tournament Team after 29 points in a loss to Ohio State (79-76) and 21 points in a win over California (62-59).
Nate Johnson, Xavier, G, Sr. – Scored a career-high 30 points, including seven 3-pointers and the winning trey in a win over Virginia Tech (59-58) in NIT Tip-Off. Made all-tournament team. Averaged 19.0 points in a 1-1 week.
