Bracket Set For 2021 #BEfútbol Championship Presented by JEEP

NEW YORK –  The bracket for the 2021 BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship presented by Jeep was solidified on Wednesday, the final play date of the regular season. Entering the day, No. 4 Georgetown, No. 16 Providence and No. 24 St. John’s knew they were postseason bound; however, all six seeds were left to be accounted for.

The top seed was claimed early, as Georgetown won its third-straight BIG EAST regular-season title outright with a 1-0 home triumph over UConn. Shortly after the final whistle blew in the nation’s capital, Villanova locked up a postseason bid following a late goal to defeat Seton Hall, 1-0, on the Main Line. The Hoyas not only clinched the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Championship, but will serve as host of the Semifinals on Nov. 11 and final on Nov. 14.

In the latter portion of Wednesday’s regular-season finale, three matches remained with two berths and five seeds to be determined.

First, DePaul rebounded from a one-goal halftime deficit with a late second-half equalizer, however the Blue Demons were not able to pull ahead at Xavier resulting in a 1-1 draw. Overall, DePaul was eliminated from tournament contention, capping the regular season with 12 points in the BIG EAST standings, while Xavier finished a position behind in ninth with 10 points.

In the fourth match to conclude, Butler and St. John’s needed an extra four minutes to determine a winner in Queens. Requiring a win to solidify a berth in the tournament, the Bulldogs garnered the golden goal 3:43 into the first overtime period to lock up a top-six seed with a 5-4-1 conference mark. Meanwhile, St. John’s got locked into the third seed following the defeat and earned a rematch with Butler at Belson Stadium Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.

Wrapping up the 2021 BIG EAST regular season, Creighton edged Providence, 2-1, on its home turf to lock up the final spot in the BIG EAST Championship. Finishing the year in a three-way tie for fourth with Butler and Villanova, the Bluejays overcame their 0-4-0 start to conference play to lock up the fourth seed and host Saturday’s first round with a 5-4-1 BIG EAST mark.

Creighton will face fifth-seeded Villanova at 7 p.m. in the opening round, with the winner set to face top-seeded Georgetown in the Semifinals on Nov. 11 at 11:30 a.m.

Both matches on Saturday will be produced by the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) Presented by SoFi on FloSports.

The second semifinal will be played against No. 2 seed Providence at 2 p.m. The winner of the Butler-St. John’s game will travel to Shaw Field on Nov. 11 to face the Friars, who finished the year with a 5-2-3 league record.

Semifinal winners will meet on Nov. 14 to decide the conference champion and earn the league’s automatic bid into the 2021 NCAA Championship. The BIG EAST final will air live on FS2 at noon.
