MBB Minute – League Success Continued Tuesday with 5-0 Mark

All five BIG EAST teams in action on Tuesday picked up victories. Overall, the league has won its last 12 games and has not lost since Friday. UConn, Creighton and Marquette all improved to 7-1, while Georgetown and Butler also won.
 
No. 17 UConn beat a stubborn Md.-Eastern Shore squad 72-63. R.J. Cole scored a game-high 25 points and added five rebounds and four assists. Cole has scored 20+ points in three of his last four games. Tyrese Martin missed the contest with an injury.
 
Creighton led North Dakota State 40-32 at halftime and cruised to an 80-55 victory. Ryan Kalkbrenner led a balanced offense with 17 points. He also blocked three shots. The Bluejays have won their last 29 games when holding their opponent to 69 points or less.
 
Marquette pulled away in the second half of an 83-54 victory over Jackson State. The score was tied 29-29 at the break before the Golden Eagles amassed 54 points in the second half. Reserve Oso Ighodaro had a career-high 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
 
Georgetown (3-3) got back in the win column with a 91-83 victory over Longwood. Collin Holloway paced five players in double figures, scoring a career-high 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting and was 9-of-9 from the foul line. Aminu Mohammed added 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
Butler (5-3) defeated Saginaw Valley State 68-57. Jair Bolden and Bryce Golden each scored 15 points. Golden grabbed eight rebounds. A spurt in the second half gave the Bulldogs a 56-40 cushion en route to the victory.
 
Wednesday’s slate shows four games, including the start of the BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. Providence (6-1) hosts Texas Tech at 8:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
 
The FS1 doubleheader begins at 6:30 p.m. with Xavier (5-1) meeting Central Michigan. The Musketeers have four players averaging in double figures led by Nate Johnson’s 13.0 mark.
 
Sixth-ranked Villanova (4-2) plays the middle game of a three-game set against Philadelphia Big Five foes when they return to the Palestra to battle Penn at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
 
Seton Hall (5-1) is off to its best start since 2017-18 when it began 9-1. The Pirates host Wagner at 7 p.m. on FS2.
