MBB Minute – DePaul, Creighton on Opposite Sides of Close Tuesday Contests

DePaul survived a road challenge, while Creighton lost a tight one at home in Tuesday’s BIG EAST action.
 
The Blue Demons (9-1) scored the last nine points of the game and grabbed a 72-66 victory at UIC. Javon Freeman-Liberty, who scored four points in the final 18 seconds, finished with a game-high 27 points and seven rebounds. DePaul aims for its third straight road win Saturday at Northwestern before beginning BIG EAST play.
 
Creighton and Arizona State were tied with just over a minute left before the Sun Devils prevailed 58-57 at CHI Health Center. Ryan Kalkbrenner finished with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and had nine rebounds. The Bluejays (8-3) made only 5-of-25 from 3-point range and only 5-of-11 free throws in the second half. Creighton starts league play on Friday at home against No. 9 Villanova.
 
Wednesday’s schedule shows a pair of games with Georgetown and No. 22 Xavier playing at home. FS1 will telecast both contests. Both teams are coming off emotional victories on Saturday.
 
At 6:30 p.m. ET, Georgetown hosts Howard. Both teams are 5-4. The Hoyas are coming off a come-from-behind win against Syracuse. Freshman Aminu Mohammed, who posted his fourth double-double on Saturday, leads the team and all BIG EAST freshmen with a 15.1 scoring mark.
 
Xavier will be aiming to increase its winning streak to six games when it hosts Morehead State at 8:30 p.m. The Musketeers (9-1) beat Cincinnati 83-63 on Saturday in the Crosstown Shootout. They lead the BIG EAST in field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents only 37.2 percent from the field.
 
Going into Wednesday, league teams own an overall record of 89-24 (.788).
