Paige Bueckers filled the stat sheet with 23 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals as the second-ranked Huskies fended off a fiery charge from the host Pirates on Friday night. The Hall narrowed a 19-point gap down to 12 with over six minutes to play, but UConn (4-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) outscored SHU 17-4 from that point forward to secure the win. Lauren Park-Lane led the Pirates with 20 points, five assists and four rebounds. The Hall (3-3, 0-1) led by one after the first quarter and by as many as six in the opening frame before UConn posted a 23-6 advantage in the second quarter to gain the lead which it never relinquished.

RV/- DePaul 101, Butler 64
The Bulldogs held an 18-17 lead 93 seconds into the second quarter before the host Blue Demons went on a decisive 22-2 run to lead by 19 just three and a half minutes later. DePaul (6-2, 1-0) went on to score 33 points in the second quarter and another 31 in the third to pull away. Deja Church led five Blue Demons in double figures with a game-high 19 points. Alex Richard led Butler (0-7, 0-1) with 14 points in 17 minutes of action. DePaul reached the century mark in points for the second time this season.

Marquette 76, Xavier 48
MU set the tone early, opening the game on a 16-4 run led by Jordan King who scored 10 points in the first seven minutes. Karissa McLaughlin scored a game-high 20 points, which included a 5-for-5 clip from deep, leading a Golden Eagle (5-2, 1-0) contingent which shot a season-best .583 (7-12) mark from three. Ayanna Townsend led Xavier (3-4, 0-1) with a career-high 16 points off 8-of-14 shooting. She added five rebounds and three blocks.

Providence 66, Villanova 47
Tied at 26-26 early in the third quarter, Providence outscored Villanova 15-6 to close the frame and never looked back, pulling away late from the visiting Wildcats. VU trimmed an 11-point deficit down to three with 7:55 to play, but the Friars responded with a 10-2 run to bump their lead back to double digits. Alyssa Geary sparked Providence (4-4, 1-0) with 18 points and a career-best 13 boards, while Villanova’s Brianna Herlihy scored a game-high 20 points. PC’s .478 shooting percentage was a season high, while Villanova (3-4, 0-1) was limited to a .271 clip.

Creighton 64, Georgetown 38
Creighton raced to a 16-0 lead to start the game and never trailed in a 64-38 victory over Georgetown (3-4, 0-1) to open BIG EAST play on Friday at CHI Health Center Omaha. The Bluejays (4-2, 1-0) shot 43-percent for the game while holding the Hoyas to a 26-percent clip. GU’s Shanniah Wright led all players with 13 points, while Creighton saw three finish in double figures, including a team-best 12 points for Morgan Maly.
