BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Sophie Hamilton, UConn, So., M (Bruton, England)
UConn sophomore midfielder Sophie Hamilton repeats as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after a 10-point week that led the Huskies to wins over Quinnipiac. Hamilton scored three goals and dished-out four assists for No. 8 Connecticut, who defeated Quinnipiac 6-0 on Friday, 8-0 on Sunday. Hamilton was credited with the game-winning goal in both wins. She had a goal and added two assists during Friday’s win, then followed that up by scoring UConn’s first two goals and adding a pair of assists during the victory on Sunday. Hamilton leads the team with 11 goals and nine assists in eight games this season.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Amanda Collins, Providence, Jr., D (San Diego, Calif.)
Providence junior defender Amanda Collins scored the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter en route to a 3-2 shootout victory against Temple on Marc 27. Collins also assisted on the Friars’ first goal of the afternoon, which also came in the fourth period. In the shootout, Collins scored the deciding goal to give Providence the victory. On Saturday, Collins anchored a defense that help Temple to five shots and just two corners. Offensively, the Friars did not find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss despite 11 shots and seven corners.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Claire van den Noort, UConn, Fr., B/M (Baricum, Netherlands)
UConn freshman midfielder scored four goals and dished-out three assists during a 2-0 week for the No. 8 Huskies. Her four goals came during UConn’s 7-0 win at Quinnipiac on Friday and she added three assists in Sunday’s 8-0 win over the Bobcats. Those four goals were the first of her career. van den Noort has also added seven assists during her first year in a UConn uniform.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Daniella Rhodes, Liberty
Rhodes paced Liberty with three goals in two games last weekend as the Lady Flames split a series with Old Dominion. In the 4-2 win, Rhodes scored twice. In the loss, Rhodes scored the lone goal.
Riley Taylor, Old Dominion
Scored the game-winner in ODU’s 2-1 win over No. 4 Liberty on Friday. She also contributed to the Monarchs’ other goal of the game, working into the circle to fire off that was saved then produced a rebound that resulted into a goal. Taylor also notched an assist in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to No. 4 Liberty.
Cristina Carotenuto, Temple
Recorded nine saves in two games to help Temple split the series against Providence. Carotenuto had her fourth clean sheet of the season on Sunday, defending a penalty stroke and seven corners. Allowed just two goals and two-stroke off attempts.
Meghan Mitchell, Villanova
Scored both Villanova goals in a 3-2 loss to Drexel on the team’s Senior Day, then bounced back with the game-winning goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over La Salle.
