Field Hockey Will Play Rider in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut field hockey team will square-off against Rider in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship on Friday, April 30 at 3 p.m. at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex in University Park, Pa. 

The Huskies qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 32nd time in program history after defeating Old Dominion, 2-0, in the BIG EAST Tournament Final and earning the league's automatic bid.   

The Huskies have qualified for 24 of the last 25 NCAA Tournaments, including the last 19 straight.  UConn has won three of the last seven NCAA Tournaments and has c­­aptured five national titles in program history.

Connecticut enters NCAA Tournament play on a seven-game winning streak and with an 11-1 overall record.  Rider is 6-1 this season and earned its spot in the NCAA Tournament by virtue of defeating LIU in the Championship Game of the NEC Tournament.
