Seton Hall Defeats Monmouth In Holloway’s Coaching Return

MBB Minute – Seton Hall used a balanced offense and a suffocating defense to hand Monmouth a 79-52 defeat on Wednesday in the first game of the Shaheen Holloway coaching era with the Pirates.

The game was the only contest on the BIG EAST Wednesday schedule. All 11 league teams are 1-0 heading into Thursday.

For the Pirates, six players scored at least eight points with senior Tray Jackson leading the way with 12 points. The Hall held Monmouth to 17.2 percent shooting from the field in the first half and led 36-17 at the break. Holloway used his bench extensively with 10 players seeing at least 13 minutes of playing time.

A two-game Thursday schedule includes Marquette hosting Central Michigan on campus at the Al McGuire Center at 8 p.m. ET on FS2 and No. 9 Creighton taking on North Dakota at 9 p.m. on FS1.

The Marquette-Central Michigan is an MU students-only game. The Golden Eagles beat Radford 79-69 in their season opener on Monday. The last time Marquette played at the Al McGuire center was in the 2018 NIT when the Golden Eagles hosted three games. After Central Michigan, the Golden Eagles play at Purdue in the Gavitt Tiipoff Games.

Creighton will be aiming for its 12th 2-0 start in the last 13 seasons when it meets North Dakota at the CHI Health Center. The Bluejays knocked off St. Thomas, Minn. 72-60 on Monday. Baylor Scheierman posted 11 points and 10 rebounds in his Bluejay debut. After North Dakota, Creighton will play Holy Cross and UC-Riverside at home before heading to the Maui Invitational.
