BIG EAST women’s basketball teams improved to 10-0 on the young season as Butler defeated Chicago State 84-57 and RV/RV DePaul cruised past American 96-45 in their respective season openers on Wednesday night. Reigning national freshman of the year Aneesah Morrow was the night’s top scorer with 24 points, to go along with eight rebounds and six steals in the Blue Demons’ lopsided win. Austin Parkinson scored a victory in his Butler head coaching debut thanks to a 53-point second half for the Bulldogs.

BIG EAST preseason favorite No. 6/6 Connecticut makes its season debut on Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Huskies host Northeastern. The game will air on SNY and can also be streamed out of market on the FOX Sports App. Xavier will look to improve to 2-0 when it plays its home opener against Detroit Mercy at 7 p.m. on FloHoops, while No. 21/21 Creighton (1-0) will travel to perennial postseason squad RV/RV South Dakota at 8 p.m. The Bluejays knocked off No. 23/24 South Dakota State in Monday’s opener. Thursday’s tilt against the Coyotes will stream on ESPN+.
 
Butler 84, Chicago State 57  
Anna Mortag scored a game-high 16 points to help Butler defeat Chicago State in the 2022-23 regular season opener Wednesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Butler shot 47.4 percent from the field in the victory and outrebounded the Cougars 42-30. The Bulldogs led by four at the half (31-27) and would double Chicago State up in the third quarter 28-14 to take full control of the action. The Bulldog bench outscored the Chicago State bench 45-20.

RV/RV DePaul 96, American 45
Eight Blue Demons tallied at least a bucket in the wire-to-wire win while four totaled double figures led by 24 points, eight rebounds and six steals from sophomore forward Aneesah Morrow. Darrione Rogers poured in 18 points with Anaya Peoples notching a double-double in her DePaul debut with 14 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, DePaul out-rebounded American 50-28 with the defensive pressure forcing 31 turnovers and allowing the Blue Demons to collect 23 steals.
